Considering this is a spec topic, here’s my concept:
Story
-Toa get a good-looking (coughcough2016’satrocititescoughcough) upgrade, and develop more in character; more friendly, yet patronizing Gali (more motherly); jokier Onua; more serious Lewa (although the comic-centric personality is still there); a lighter Kopaka; a more charismatic Tahu; and a friendlier Pohatu (mix 2015 and 2017 in a bowl, and see crude results).
-Toa gain new allies, likely old prophets (destiny focus; let’s call them John), and use new allies somehow in battle.
-Makuta has awoken, and fights Ekimu in some battle. He’s still Okotan(okotian?)-sized.
-Makuta defeats Ekimu and co., in a battle where Ekimu attempts to keep from killing his brother and bringing him back to “the light”. Makuta re-dons the Mask of Ultimate Power, and becomes Mega-Makuta again.
-Toa fight Mega-Makuta and his new allies, strange 2-elemented creatures with hulking size; let’s call them “Titans”, and Johns combine to create a MegaJohn.
-MegaJohn and Ekimu join forces, and defeat Makuta and his Titan buddies, where Ekimu wins Makuta over to the “light side”. MoUP becomes its own body, and attempts to throw Toa back into G1, which it brought for “its own plots.”
Sets
Winter:
-3 “big” $20 Toa (same as ever), 3 “small” $15 toa. Toa look good, unlike 2016
-Johns, which have a wizardly design. $10.
-$20 Ekimu v. Makuta set. Ekimu looks like a $10 version of his EtMM set, Makuta is prpl ‘n’ gold $10. MoUP included.
Summer:
-Titans are Fire-Jungle, Earth-Stone, Water-Ice. all $15, “titans” by name. 2 “corrupted” silver-trans. Masks
-MegaMakuta: essentially a black-red mech for Makuta, has the MoUP used in the Makuta v. Ekimu set on its head. Actual Makuta not included.
-MegaJohn: White and gold John with aspects of each John included, tall as Gali. $15.
That concludes my ludicrous predictions for 2017; what do you guys think?
Not really.
LEGO could draw a big division lightning-bolt-like line down the middle of the box to show them at different times.
So Makuta the Mask Maker could have the Forge/Ekimu in his background, and Ultimate Makuta could have…2017 easter eggs/references/stuff in his background.
Or they could have a Mask Maker Makuta transforming into Ultimate Makuta (like Animorphs for instance).
Anyways, it obviously wouldn’t show the Animorph-between-morphing in the transformation (unless you could build the transforming Makuta with the pieces. That would be cool).
It would be more like this Ant-Man: Final Battle Set.
See the outlines around Ant-Man to show that he’s shrinking?
It would look more like that, except with Makuta the Mask Maker (left side) growing into Ultimate Makuta (right side).
Or, you know, they won’t release a set of a version of a character that only appears for 30 seconds in an animation two years earlier, and is a clone of a preexisting set?
Unless they pull a Garmadon by having MoUP Makuta as the Toa-sized Winter villain, then Makuta is redeemed and the Summer large villain is the MoUP itself. In which case, there might be a “good” Makuta released but I still doubt they would make it a clone of a set that uses an older building style…
I just hope they manage Technic use and textures on next year’s sets better than they did with this year. Things like the clash between crystalline and mechanical details on the Toa, unnecessary Technic builds like the Beast’s lower legs, and having 21 pistons on one piece need to not recur. Also, no more PoU-esque parts please.
I agree with much of what you said, but I liked the piece of unification. It was a good way to have unities and make the creature’s functions possible.
You’re saying that like we know that BIONICLE’s going to end next year. From the look of it, it seems like BIONICLE’s actually doing pretty well. I mean, it got a TV show. You don’t give something that’s doing poorly a TV show a year after the launch.
Let’s just hold our Rahi and wait and see if LEGO gives us anything about BIONICLE’s ending.
What reason is there to think we won’t get two waves? Hero Factory ended in 2014, but it still got two waves of sets, and a number of new molds, including new minifigure pieces. There’s no evidence that BIONICLE is doing worse than HF, so it’s logical to assume that even if 2017 is G2’s last year (which is uncertain), we will still get two waves, like 2015 and this year…
