“I find Rahi to be very similar to Matoran in a lot of ways. They can feel happiness, anger, sadness, and loneliness. Some mourn for their dead. Some possess powers that rival or surpass the Toa. So before you criticize my work, remember that I do more than clean up after their mess.”
-Bokarda (Matoran).

“Stupid Rahi.”
-Bokarda (Toa Monster), after killing a Protocairn.

“I’m not a hero. I’m not a protector. I’m not even a Toa. I’m a monster.”
-Bokarda (Toa), before fighting Fraga the Mad.

G1: Bokarda was a Matoran who was tortured and mutated by the Makuta in order to create an artificial Toa.

Early Life: Bokarda’s appearance as a Matoran has never been documented. Most scholars believe he wore a powerless Faxon, although others have theorized he might have worn either a Pakari or Kakama.
It is unknown which tribe Bokarda belonged to, although scholars have agreed that he was most likely a Bo-Matoran. What little is known about his life as a Matoran is his quiet but active nature, letting his actions speak louder than his words. He was known to be very good with Rahi, and it is thought he was a Rahi trainer or breeder.

Abduction: Bokarda was kidnapped by an unnamed Makuta while he was feeding a lone Kikanalo. The Kikanalo tried to protect Bokarda, but it was wounded and forced to flee to Bokarda’s village. Once it arrived, Bokarda’s friends ventured out to search for him, only to find his satchel where he was abducted.
Once he was detained in the Makuta’s lair, Bokarda was subjected to cruel tests which included being dissected while still conscious and having body parts replaced with larger models. He was kept alive through the Makuta’s power, as well as small doses of Hordika venom to mutate his body to heal itself. On more than one occasion, Bokarda was exposed to energy that the Brotherhood had siphoned from the Red Star. It is currently unknown for how long Bokarda was held captive, but it is noted to have taken place sometime before the Great Cataclysm.
At some point while being held captive, Bokarda was subjected to an experiment where he was fused with various body parts that had once belonged to Toa of Earth and Plantlife, which was kept together through the utilization of energized protodermis. During the middle of the experiment, all of the Makuta were summoned to Karda Nui, including Bokarda’s captors. Bokarda was left in the experiment room, restrained to the table as the fusion process took place.
Because of the lack of supervision, an excessive amount of Hordika venom was pumped into Bokarda’s body. The shock from the venom was great enough for Bokarda to break free from his restraints, allowing his body to stretch and continue the process of mutating.
Bokarda was trapped within the facility long enough for the mutation process to complete. Bokarda’s mask, which is now established to be a Great Faxon, had been warped and mutated by the Hordika venom and the fusion with the Toas’ remains. While it could be said that Bokarda was either a Toa Nuva, Hordika, or Inika, he had never become a Toa through conventional means, such as through a Toa Stone. Due to his unique circumstances, Bokarda was the only Toa of his kind, and therefore can not be categorized with any other Toa.

Escape: Bokarda was able to find his way out of the now-abandoned facility and began wandering the Matoran Universe, using his Kanohi mask to take in the powers of the Rahi he encountered. He eventually made his way into Metru Nui, where he remained until Teridax seized control of the Matoran Universe.

Bara Magna: Bokarda was hunted by Teridax’s servants due to him being somewhat-mistaken for a Toa. The pursuit ended with Bokarda escaping from the Matoran Universe, during the fight between Mata Nui and Teridax. Upon escaping, he was attacked by a group of Rahkshi, which he easily dispatched.

As Teridax was killed by the incoming planet of Aqua Magna, Bokarda fled and went into hiding, away from the inhabitants who had just won the war against the Makuta.

Spherus Magna: Bokarda was wandering the desert when Spherus Magna was remade, so he did not notice the changes until he stumbled across the Hot Springs. Here, he was attacked by a wandering Protocairn, resulting in a long battle for survival. Ultimately, Bokarda killed the Protocairn and gained access to its powers.

After making a full recovery from the battle, Bokarda decided to reside in the Hot Springs, growing his own vegetation for food and hollowing out an underwater cave to sleep in.

Restoration: At some point while on Spherus Magna, a strange being wandered into Bokarda’s territory. Before Bokarda could fight, the being struck the Toa monster with red lightning, mutating him one last time. This resulted in Bokarda’s body growing more proportional, alleviating his insanity in the process. As Bokarda had recovered from the ordeal, the being had vanished, never to be seen again.

At some point in time, Bokarda fought against Fraga, Kallus, and the Zamor Beetle, resulting in the death of Fraga and the escape of Kallus. The Zamor Beetle began to follow Bokarda, ending in Bokarda adopting the strange Rahi.
Now free from his curse, Bokarda reintegrated into Matoran society, meeting with the original natives of Bara Magna in the process. From then on, Bokarda became a fully-fledged Toa, dedicating his life to protecting the weak.

Personality: Bokarda was a stoic, holding his silence as he performed manual labor or helped out around his village. Very few Matoran heard him speak, which he did not do unless he had something important to say. Despite his quiet nature, he was very friendly to Rahi. He often felt more empathy for Rahi than other Matoran, which led to him being a recluse.
While he was quiet, Bokarda was also a very active member of the community. He would almost always help a fellow Matoran with a difficult task, and he always left before he could be thanked.

Powers and Tools: Bokarda was an artificial Toa, possessing more than one element. He was a Toa of both Earth and Plantlife, meaning he could not only manipulate the earth around him, but also manipulate all plantlife. He possessed extremely powerful night vision and an immunity to all natural poisons and venoms. Due to being a Toa of Earth, he possessed an unnatural degree of physical strength, which he could channel throughout his entire body. He regularly used this strength to augment his running speed, allowing him to move faster than almost any Toa (excluding those that wore a Kakama).
Bokarda wore a mutated Faxon Nuva, the Mask of Kindred, which could bestow upon the user the abilities of Rahi. While a Great Faxon was limited to creatures within a Toa’s general environment, the mutated Faxon Nuva was restricted to creatures directly in front of or having physical contact with the user, which even extended to Rahi encountered prior to becoming a Toa. Despite this limitation, the Rahi abilities gained by the mutated mask were permanent, meaning Bokarda would always grow stronger for each Rahi he interacted with. He has gained the following abilities:

  • Body-mind disruption from the Protocairn on Spherus Magna.
  • Enhanced strength, speed, and intelligence from an Artakha Bull in Metru Nui.
  • Size augmentation and water breathing from a Cave Fish.
  • Sonic roar from a Kikanalo in Bokarda’s village.
  • Venom generation from a Bog Snake on Spherus Magna.
Bokarda’s mutations resulted in him developing claws on his monstrously-large hands, which were strong enough to damage Protosteel. He also possessed feet additions, which were implanted into his body during the experiments.
Bokarda is almost completely insane due to the experiments done to him. This degree of insanity makes him completely immune to mental attacks, as well as attacks on his motor skills. During the fight against the Protocairn, the Protocairn tried and failed to disrupt the connection between Bokarda’s body and mind. Because this attack had no effect on Bokarda, it is often theorized that the Toa has no control over his own body.
After being mutated into a more proportional being, Bokarda regained his sanity and retained all of his power from his previous form. One bonus he gained was his increased agility which vastly improved his fighting style and technique. Because he still had his claws and feet additions built into his body, he felt no need to carry any other weapons.

Set Information: Bokarda is comprised of various pieces of various sets:

Trivia

  • Because of his mutated Faxon Nuva, Bokarda has the potential of obtaining every elemental type in existence, which means he could become the most powerful Toa in existence. This is due to the nature of the various Burnak species, which are Rahi that possess innate elemental power. However, Bokarda has never seen a Burnak before.
  • Bokarda is incapable of flight, even when using his mutated Kanohi. This is due to his lack of wings and aerodynamics. At the very best, Bokarda would only be capable of gliding, albeit very ineffectively.
  • The Makuta captured Bokarda in order to turn him into a Toa killer, and had planned on brainwashing him after the experiments had been completed. This means Bokarda was the Makuta’s original plan to destroy the Toa, at least until Teridax betrayed them all. The following experiments were never put into action due to Teridax’s betrayal: Adaptive armoring, ballistic weapon implants, camouflage, Kanohi power disruption/negation, Krana/Shadow Leech creation, Rahkshi domination, Wing generation.

G3: Bokarda was a Tiro-Nahoin Matoran that served as a healer and Rahi tender in Tiro.

Early Life: Bokarda was born to a Tiroan father and Nahoin mother. His father was a retired soldier and current temple guardian, while his mother was a skilled healer. The two settled in Tiro to help cultivate medical knowledge in the region.

Bokarda was sent to the Temple of Terak by his parents to serve in the Tiroan military and receive a formal education in medicine. Learning the art of combat and healing, he grew to become a skilled healer. Upon graduation, Bokarda took an interest in studying Rahi, learning their behaviors and mimicking their communicative patterns from time to time.

The Freezing: When the island was frozen in time, Bokarda was walking up the steps of the temple to congratulate his friends Z’Nook and Peppy for completing their education in the arts and craftsmanship, respectively.

Abilities and Traits: Bokarda was a realist, meaning he was thought of as neither optimistic nor pessimistic. Due to his relaxed mannerisms, most people assumed he was apathetic. While he did not make work his priority, he was able to excel whenever he put his mind to something.
While Bokarda was stronger than the average Tiroan, he was not as strong as the other soldiers and guardians at the temple. Because of this, he was forced to study his sparring partners carefully, finding weaknesses in their movements and mannerisms. With this refined sense, he became one of the best fighters in his graduating year. In his post-graduation life, he had the habit of carrying a fighting staff.
Bokarda was fascinated by Rahi, even more so than medicine or combat. Because of his passion, he utilized his education to study Rahi up-close, prepared to fight back if he was in danger. Because of his unnaturally reckless behavior with Rahi, he was nicknamed the “Bog Snake Hunter” by some of his former classmates.
When it came to medicine, Bokarda was highly adept to the point of rivalling healers with a decade of experience. This is due to Bokarda incorporating various venoms produced by Rahi in traditionally plant-based medicines. Thanks to a few of his newly-developed medicines, the life expectancy in Tiro was increased by five years, and the rate of terminal illness decreased by ten percent.
Something that made Bokarda somewhat unpopular among his peers was his sympathy for the existence of the Lightning Tribe, as well as the dispute between the three Titans. Because of his limited knowledge, he did not know who was to blame. He, in no form, supported or sympathized with the Brotherhood of Makuta and viewed them as a threat to all Matoran-kind.

I really like the backstory that you gave him and the fact that his arms are HUGE compared to his legs showing that he is very mutated!.

Yeah, it was REALLY difficult trying to build stability into his limbs, but fortunately everything worked out well. Also, I’ve always wanted to incorporate Mata/Nuva torsos into limbs, so having them as the fists gives him a gorilla-like physique.
