Could a LEGO Ideas Project Save Bionicle/Constraction?

Neither, as you know I’m mainly a system Bionicle MOCist, I also think it a system model is more likely to be approved by lego, but I won’t tell to much about what exactly it is now

Yeah, but the minifigures would probably require new molds, which isn’t allowed.

They don’t need to in the project to get some in the product. Steamboat Willie contained a piece that only came in a minifigure pack that was coming out at the same time.

@LegoDavid Won’t tell how I plan to go about that yet, In case it doesn’t work out

@ToaNoah_Wafflemeister yeah but that was a bit of a scpeial case, because the peices were also in the CMF series, everything about Steamboat Willie was a bit different fro normal ideas sets…

So yeah, people have already started submiting Bionicle projects on LEGO Ideas.
Here is a very good one that I think deserves our support:

I dunno… I’m pretty sure some of the parts featured there aren’t even in use anymore. Some of the older Bionicle pieces are my main concern. Like, I know Tahu’s flame sword reappeared on Berix’s set that one time, but I don’t really recall it being used much after that.

Well, LEGO Ideas specifically says that they won’t allow any new molds… But their policy doesn’t say anything about old molds as far as I am aware.

I don’t think it’s up to their policy though. If you used a part with a colour they no longer use, how do you expect them to mass produce it? They don’t make it anymore, it is impossible, it’s like asking them to make wooden toys again - it just isn’t happening.

Well, they would have specified it if that were the case.

I think they would consider that self-evident.

“What do you mean you don’t sell Ford Escort Mark IIs anymore? I’m gonna sue you!” :stuck_out_tongue:

@Sokoda, how’s the project going? When do you think it would be finished?

So I’m done with building, and prints, so now I’ll have to to the renders, write my text… and then Lego has to approve it on ideas, so might take a couple more days

UPDATE! I was fast and I’m done:

One day, and you’re already a fourth of the way there! (Supporter #225)

I left a comment, but this is still too good to praise just once! I would buy this very quickly!

Really awesome set, dude! I’m gonna have to make an account just to support!

What are your plans for marketing, by the way? 200+ supporters this fast is very impressive, but to scrounge up 10,000 is gonna require a very aggressive advertising strategy to get this set out beyond our little community.

So apparently I was right after all.

Well, my first thought was possibly promoting it on the Bionicle subreddit. I’ve already put a post there, but I doubt it’ll get far. The sub does have 17,500 members however, if even a few of them take a look and support then it’ll probably help.

But really, anyone anywhere - amino, maskposting I guess, whatever. Heck, just tell anyone you think you could even convince to support it even if they don’t care for Bionicle. Friends, family, whatever.

@PakariNation99 Thank you
I tried to promote it in various discord servers, the bionicle subreddit, the just2good subreddit, a lot happened on Twitter… so I really try

I could need help on the Facebook and Instagram front, because I’m not really active there

@LegoDavid I’m really super happy about TTVs support, truely amazing

Well, the thing is, the Bionicle community may be larger than we think. Bohrok101’s Bionicle: Ignition War Stop Motion which was published roughly 7 mouths ago on YouTube currently sits at 237.348 views, which clearly tells something.

To be fair, it was incredibly high quality, and was near incomprehensible. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who appreciated it as a piece of art alone, without any real knowledge or care about Bionicle itself. Not to mention the obvious reference to infinity war in the title that likely drew some people in.

It tells us something, but it’s very important to keep those numbers in context. Trilogy is long-form high quality animated content, which usually does well within YouTube’s algorithm driven eco-system. As @TheMightyObsidianDude said, it’s lack of any coherent narrative actually makes it more accessible to a modern hyper-active child/teenage/young adult audience.

In contrast @Sokoda’s project makes some deep lore cuts that will only be able to be properly appreciated by hardcore BIONICLE story fans. For that reason, I think reaching out to places like Bzpower and the BIONICLE Instagram community would be a good idea. I’ll certainly be promoting it on Instagram in the coming months as I expand onto that platform.
