Hello everyone. For those of you who do not know, I am Mctoran, and I'm the proud creator of a fictional universe of mine which I call The Mctoran-Verse. A bit arrogant-sounding? Perhaps, but it has a nice ring to it.
Anyways, it has been a few months since the final RP on my Universe's timeline, Cataclysm, has concluded. And in my opinion it was a strong finish to my universe's overarching narrative.
However, although the main story of my universe is complete, I see so much potential for more stories and more characters to exist within it, and for my universe to live on and continue existing and evolving.
And so, I have come to the decision that I would like to grant "The Keys to The Kingdom" to you all, and publically open my universe for anyone and everyone to contribute.(to a certain extent at least, but I'll cover the limitations on a bit)
Now there may be some of you here who don't even know about my universe or what it is. Well, fear not, for I have an entire wiki dedicated to my universe that you can consult:
Now keep in mind that despite nearly a year of almost-nonstop effort put into it, this wiki is still WIP(but then again, what wiki ever is truly complete?), however I have already included all the key components of the lore on the wiki that are required to have a clear understanding of my universe. The main element that is missing are a bunch of articles for individual characters. But I already have a page for nearly every species, organization, energy/element, and prominent character in my universe. There is also a page with a detailed comprehensive Timeline of events thus far in my universe as well.
Anyways, I want to be able to make this universe publically available for anyone to contribute to, within reason. Meaning that anyone can create their own stories, RPs and characters for my universe and have them be canon, so long as they do not violate any of the rules which I will soon establish.
Now, I want to give people creative freedom, but not so much so that it would be to the detriment of other people's creations and work within my universe which they put much effort into creating. So I have created a set of rules which outline specific criteria that a creation must meet in order for it to be considered "Canon" in my universe.
1. Only Prequels, Interquels and Spin-Offs may be created.
I know many of you may be disappointed by this rule, but to me it is the most important one. Essentially, Cataclysm was specifically written to be the absolute conclusion of my Universe, and that was the intent I and probably all the players had in mind when writing it. It serves as a satisfying ending to the story of my universe and all its characters, and if the story were to continue beyond this point then that charm would be robbed from it. Another concern of mine is that I am not confident with trusting the future of my universe (as in the in-universe future) in the hands of someone else; the Star Wars Sequel trilogy serves as a primary example of my concerns. So if anyone were to continue the story of my Universe beyond Cataclysm, it would be me.
But this is by no means a hindrance to anyone’s creativity. Keep in mind that you all have an entire Multiverse worth of potential for stories, and an infinite number of years on my timeline to fill the gaps of.
2. Do not overstep the creative boundaries of other people’s properties within my Universe
The title of this rule probably sounds confusing, so allow me to elaborate. This is essentially a set of common courtesies to pay to others.
Basically, I am obviously not the only one who has contributed lore to my Universe; dozens of other people have added to it in some capacity or another, and to me that is the charm of it. And since I am allowing anyone to contribute to my universe, I am of course allowing them to work with pre-existing properties of my universe.(Note: “Properties” are essentially any concept, such as a character, race, organization, element et.c that exists within my universe) But what exactly these properties are, and how you’re using them is what matters. So, here is my list of Don’ts when it comes to this:
*Do not add any material that alters the history or concept of a property in my universe that does not belong to you, unless with permission from the creator/owner of said property.
*Do not add any material that contradicts a pre-existing property that does not belong to you in my universe.
*Do not add any material that overrides/supersedes a fundamental concept/property in my Universe; This would basically be anything to do with all the Multiversal-scale lore, concepts and properties. So basically, the most important example is that there are Five Multiversal Races, who are self-created from Five Multiversal Energies at the beginning of time. This number will never change, meaning you cannot create a Multiversal race that existed at the beginning of the Multiverse. You can create Multiversal entities or small group that were created by the Five already-existing races, but that's it. Sub-Multiversal races are also okay.
3. The Question of Where
Since I want to encourage creativity and innovation, I am going to allow for people to make stories/characters/RPs in my Universe on ANY website, not just TTV. This can allow for growth and expansion, as well as incorporate more advanced literary themes than what you may find here on TTV. However, whoever chooses to create a material in my universe on a site besides TTV must notify me first, preferably in private in a PM, and tell me exactly what site it will be on.
4. Regarding AUs
Since my fictional setting is a Multiverse, there are of course bound to be AU versions of certain characters/events. My rule of thumb is this: just because anything is possible in the Multiverse, doesn’t mean that every possibility has to be documented or is important enough to warrant such. Yeah, there may be a universe out there where The Gamemaster has Pop-Tarts for breakfast, and an alternate universe where he eats Cheerios instead. But nobody cares about that and that is boring. So if you are going to create an AU universe/character, it must be innovative and unique from all the other universes which exist thus far. Additionally, regarding AU versions of characters which you do not own, that is a no-go. At least, unless given permission by the character’s creator to do so. A final rule, is that AU versions of Multiversal or Sub-Multiversal beings/concepts in my universe cannot exist in canon. Multiversal and Sub-Multiversal entities are, by definition, the only versions of themselves to exist in The Multiverse. Otherwise, alternate versions of Multiversal concepts are considered to be fanfiction; which of course is not a bad thing in itself, but a distinction must be made between canon and non-canon.
Anyways, I believe I have all bases covered here. I highly encourage questions/comments/constructive criticism regarding this, as feedback would greatly aid in me revising this set of rules and making a much more secure and stable foundation for which this universe to grow on and become something great. Thank you all.
