Life In Quarantine

While browsing through the message boards, I have seen a lot of negativity and despise for the quarantine in which many if not all of us are suffering through. I myself have started to get a little loopy being cooped up in the same building with the same people for almost two months.

But, this quarantine hasn’t been all bad for me, it has given me opportunities to work on projects, finally have time to rework some of my older mocs, and become more active on the message boards.

Many topics (the relationship topic for instance) only focus on the negative attributes of the quarantine. So I am curious as to what good has come out of it for other people.

What new projects, hobbies, and outlooks come as a result of this?

I don’t know about any new projects, but I have been able to begin running Runa and I’s collaborative Rennisance America RP on discord.

In addition, I’ve been able to spend more time on trying out old GBA games on my (well, my dad’s) Raspberry Pi emulation machine.

I for one was able to work on a mindstorms robot that used 2 rcx’s, a scout, and a power functions battery box, allowing for rc control, smart navigation, and a pneumatic claw.

I also had the chance to sort my ccbs/bionicle parts

Personally I just love seeing these ads “it’ll be ok. It’ll end soon and we’ll be happy to see you again.”

All these normal people are struggling while us weebs are just doing what we ussually do; it’s kinda entertaining on its own.

As for me kinda bored but I’ve caught up on several shows including all 23 seasons of South Park.

I refuse to be classified as a weeb

I too have been able to work on several projects. Purchased a Galidor lot. I think some good things we’ll see are more people going outdoors, more people forced into family life, more people sick of screens (thinking of students), more people familiar with communication technology (thinking of older people), and more people experimenting with beards at home.

Like many others here, I have had a lot of more time for MOCing, which has been pretty fun. I also started growing herbs in my apartment, after being convinced that i could not keep any plants alive. So it feels really good to seeing them actually growing, and still look healthy. Also beein reading more, and I’ve been better at planning my future, as in I will start studying again and might move someplace bigger.

On the less fun side, I have been out of work since 2 months back, and it’s been really hard to find a job in my business now due to the virus. I did however get a job for the summer, starting in june, so it feels good to have some certainty for the future now.

In short, things could be better, but I’m still holding up somewhat. It sucks that I haven’t seen my family since christmas, since I live quite a bit away from them, though.

Oh, yes. And DOOM Eternal.

I mean, for me personally, life isn’t too different.
I did about 50% of my schoolwork at home anyways, I go to a charter school.
I stay inside this time of year mostly because of allergies. All in all, the quarantine’s really just another reason to continue what I’m doing.
That being said, I have had more time to focus on my drawing, as well as moccing and various other things.
I’ve been doing a bit more cooking.

Up until this point, my life hasn’t been too much different.

Now that school is over though I’ve been brainstorming ways to use up my time since I’m only working about an hour a day. Main things are to actually start a musical practice regimen, and now that I’m no longer having to code for assignments, find a way to code that’s fun.

I hate it lol. Can’t see my girlfriend, can’t go to church, can hardly eat chikfila, three to four trips got cancelled, and I can’t look for a job (parents scared I’ll catch it at the grocery stores)

Honestly it seems that my teachers were waiting for a reason to blast us with tests and homework and I’m starting to think that I chose the wrong school.
Anyway I fixed the 3d printer and I’m trying to improve with my drawings skills. Also I’m experimenting with a method to make custom prints on lego minifigs

I didn’t go many places before but now I don’t get to see my friends. Everyone’s scared of the indoors but we can’t go outside so.

I have to attend 35 minute zoom classes everyday from 8:30 - 2:00, it has started getting a little old, but with summer coming nearer, I still have hope for the future. I can’t wait to have a freer schedule and get back to work on some larger lego projects.

I managed to re-watch Avatar: The Last Airbender and finish The Legend of Korra. I also got the 2018 Hogwarts Castle built (the nanofigure-scaled one), and I plan to get the 2010 and 11 Hogwarts sets built this week.

I have used the quarantine to start calisthenics training and replace an old computer hard drive, installing kubuntu Linux. I’ve started very carefully learning Linux so I can have a hard-core programming rig for my next college summer class.

I don’t really feel like I have more free time, but I think my MOCing skills have greatly advanced during this period, and I work much faster, too. I’d love to buy a BrickLink order and advance them even more, but I’m still concerned about getting the virus from it.

Basic cleaning stuff gets rid of it on surfaces. That’s why washing your hands and stuff helps. I’d just wipe it all down with a mask and wash your hands when you’re done

Unless you have preexisting conditions that make you more vulnerable

It could work to keep the pieces in water at 72 degrees celsius for around 45 mins-1 hour. That is enough to kill of most microbiological life on most given objects. That and handling the package with gloves when you first get it and handle the pieces. I’ve studied food hygiene on and off for the last few years, and this was a rule of thumb if we wanted to sterilize something. But, not a doctor, so take this with a grain of salt.

This will not work with electric pieces.

Doesn’t that endanger the prints?

yeah… I have melted plastics before by keeping them at 145 F in water, I ruined an entire keyboards worth of keys.

I would take serious precautions, maybe give them a quick rinse of diluted clorox solution and leave them for a few minutes.
