Plans for the Metru Toa Stones

So, before becoming Turaga, the Toa Metru left six Toa stones on Mata Nui, right? Were there ever plans to use these in the story?

I don’t know if Greg has anything else to add on to this, but I do know that Takua used the Metru Toa Stones to summon the Toa Mata’s canisters to the island.
