Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker Topic

Yes.

If the laugh wasn’t proof enough, Ian McDiramid came out on stage directly after the teaser debuted to command the tech crew to play the trailer again.

In one form or another, Palpatine is in Episode IX.

OK, just why?

But… how? He died.

Either they’re retconning it and he DIDN’T die (which would be bad) or he’ll appear as a vision or Force spirit in the ruins of the Death Star.

Hm
Okay. That’s cool.

I’m no expert on the expanded lore, but Im prety sure that before Disney got rid of the EU, Palpatine had cloned himself in some way or another so he could be functionally immortal. Also, he is the apprentice of Darth Plaguis the Wise…

This is true, and he also tried to possess a Solo baby. It’s one of the things people usually purposefully forget when talking about the great things of the EU. That and the Yuuzhang Vong.

To be fair, he fell down a hole, something we see maul survive in 1, so it’s entirely possible, However. With the quote before I believe it’s far more possible that he’ll be a ghost

If they pull time travelly shenanigans with the World Between Worlds, and summon him before he fell to his death (giving an explanation to the blue mist) I’d be hesitant, but could buy it.

It really depends on how it’s handled, like all things, though looking at both deathstar explosions, neither blew up in a way that would allow for the Chunk in the trailer to exist, which makes me curious about what exactly is going on

Let’s keep in mind just how dense both DS Orbital Battle Stations had to have been. They’re moon sized death balls made out of durasteel and other obviously durable materials that weren’t just hollow spheres, but also had command decks, corridors, and stuff, so while most of both stations are destroyed by the implosion, I don’t think it’s too far fetched for large-ish chunks of the exterior to exist as shrapnel. Battlefront II 2017 showed plenty of debris and wreckage following the destruction of the Death Star II instead of just empty space where a death ball used to be.

Usually I’d agree with you, but the shard is part of the firing disk(?) An area we see no shrapnel from, and it is a huge chunk as well. So something we should have seen from either

I think the main characters will be heading to the ruins of the Death Star for some reason, and find that the Emperor lives on, whether its in the possession of the security systems or something else weird.

Anyways, I’m dissapointed that the teaser was half of just Rey staring into the desert, but pretty stoked about everything else.

OK, after watching this trailer live, and taking a few hours to rewatch/process it…

I’m happy. Very, very happy. That trailer resonated with me, somehow, in a way I wasn’t expecting. It truly feels like we’re being ushered into the end of the Skywalker Saga. As for the title, I think the reactions to it are interesting. On the one hand, it seems a little unusual for the final film in the saga to be called “The Rise of Skywalker,” but considering a few things might provide some context:

Firstly, as others have said, the title does not necessarily refer to one definitive person. It could be Rey (I hope not), it could be Luke (though I can’t see how), it could be Leia (possible, but hard to work around due to Carrie Fisher’s absence), or it could be Kylo (most likely). Heck, it could even be someone from left field, like Anakin, or even an unknown Skywalker we haven’t yet encountered.

Secondly, I think this quote from TLJ–which I believe to be the origin of the title “The Rise of Skywalker”–has some interesting bits:

SNOKE: “I warned my young apprentice that as he grew stronger, his equal in the light would rise.”

[uses the Force to take Rey’s lightsaber]

SNOKE: “Skywalker…I assumed, wrongly.”

So, according to Snoke, Skywalker (Luke, to him) would rise to face Kylo. But Snoke then believed that Rey was actually Kylo’s destined foil. However, TROS would seem to indicate that Snoke’s prediction was correct. But which Skywalker will be Kylo’s undoing? My bet is on Kylo himself…

That’s all I’ve got for now, except to say that I still can’t believe I actually heard Darth Sidious in that trailer, or that he’s actually returning. It seems utterly surreal…

This has got my hopes back up. Rey’s new outfit, and everyone else’s are great! Kylos is reforging his awesome helmet! Billy D. freaking Williams! My man is back! The Death Star chunk on Endor like in the concept art! The Emporer('s force ghost? Battlefront 2 hologram?)! No Rose! This might just save Star Wars for me.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Rose is in the film. Kelly Marie Tran was at the Episode IX panel, and JJ said “the best thing Rian Johnson did was cast Kelly for me”.

Yay! I loved Rose

Well, she wasn’t in the trailer, and I had a feeling she’d come back, but hey, maybe J.J. won’t screw her up. Hopefully she is allowed to dress a little more femenin. Kelly Marie Tran is a very attractive woman, and the coverall really didn’t do her justice. I liked her before her animal rights tirade on Casino World, and the forced relationship with Finn was irritating.

@Holi Why does that come as no surprise.
