Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker Topic

Leia will also too most likely die.
And Palpatine.

Leia literally has to die and I hope Palpatine is just a ghost or something.

You know, I’m not sure why I didn’t expect this. JJ took the trilogy in one direction, then Rian took it in a completely different direction. Now, JJ is trying to pull it back in the original direction. To me, it kinda shows why it’s a good idea to have the same director throughout the entire set of movies, instead of just one or two out of the three, because if you are someone like JJ, then you end up either having to somehow incorporate what happened in the middle or have it be a completely different beginning or ending then you wanted

Thank you! I said this earlier in the topic, (or was it the TLJ topic) and no one believed me!

Palpatine is dead already. Maybe he will appear as a Force Ghost or something, but I doubt we will see him in a human form.

I doubt it, due to the lore behind force ghosts.

I mean… I doubt JJ knows much about Force Ghosts to begin with. Most people who don’t know much about the extended lore wouldn’t either. So seeing Palpatine as a Force Ghost or something like that wouldn’t be surprising to me. Sure, there are alternatives that would tie in better with the extended canon, but I doubt we will see any of that.

I’m so, so excited to see this trainwreck.

I still think three unique directors presenting their own unique directorial style for each film would have been amazing, but they needed a concrete plan for the trilogy as a whole, and they didn’t have that because JJ can’t get over his stupid mystery box and left everyone else to figure it out once he thought he was done.

Of course knowing what we know now, it would’ve been a much safer idea to just have had JJ helm all three films instead of just one (and make that into two) at the start. Would’ve forced JJ to get over himself and actually come up with a story.

So it’s not that no one believed you, it’s just that we all pretty much agree given how things have panned out, so there’s not that much to add.

Ok, I saw it! I’m going to repost a comment I made somewhere else, because I dont want to type that much again. Overall, I had a great time watching, and given that my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised. You could say, “A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.” Anyway, here goes.
You know what? I really liked it, despite it’s flaws. It had some really great scenes, overall the story seemed solid, and it was really entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat in the final battle and I had a huge grin on my face seeing my boy The Senate pull some Legends level unlimited power out and wreck the Resistance fleet. I loved what they did with Ben’s character, and I felt like Rey was handled well, compared to before. I absolutely loved hearing the voices of the Jedi speak to Rey, that was really cool.

Obviously, it wasnt perfect, though. I felt like a lot still needed to be explained/could have been explained better; such as Palpatine’s initial survival, that Sith planet not being Koriban, Palpy somehow having a kid, etc. Overall, I think my biggest gripe is that it’s really difficult to rationalize how Anakin’s sacrifice meant anything. It seems like “bringing balance to the force” should be more than a couple-decade effect, but oh well. My theory is that perhaps the chosen one is a cycle. This would work a lot better if they had done it so that Palpatine created Rey like he created Anakin, and maybe worked Revan in there or something. Regardless, the parts of star wars dealing with the deeper aspects of the force have always been really vague and confusing, so oh well. A few other minor things:

-The Sith Temple should have had some recognizable nods to some past Sith Lords -At the end, Anakin should have been there with Luke and Leia on Tatooine. Maybe start with a shot of them, and then have the sand clear to reveal the ghosts of all the other Jedi. Great cameo opportunity that was missed. -I think some of the Lightsaber choreography looked a bit clunky from a technical perspective, but for what it was it looked fine -I really loved all the fan service.
Overall, solid film, I just think J.J. Abrams is a bit too in the habit of creating new ideas without looking to the established lore, which just makes things feel inconsistent. Still, I had a great time watching. Did anyone else?

Ok I’ll be honest; after the Last Jedi I kinda just checked out of Star Wars. TLJ wasn’t horrible, but everything that was previously set up was tossed away or given not really satisfying resolutions (plus that casino planet segment was absolute garbage), and i didn’t feel a reason to be hyped for the next one.
I was optimistic that maybe if it went back to JJ that things could be fixed. Then the leaks happened. Then I was less optimistic.
And what seals the deal is watching JeremyJahn’s review for this thing and hearing some spoilery stuff that happens. I have no desire to see ROS. Like, I’ve completely written off this new trilogy. The whole thing is just a massive disappointment and wasted potential.
And it sucks to feel this way.
Now only a Grievous movie could bring me back to theatres.

Having seen it, it felt less like a genuine star wars film, and more like a well made fan film

Just got back from seeing the movie so here are my initial thoughts

Overall the movie was just okay. It’s raw entertainment value is pretty good. There’s a good bit of action and a lot happens throughout. My problem was with the storyline and character development and traits. The entire sequel trilogy seems very reliant on bringing back old characters to engage viewers and keep them coming back to theaters. The handling of their new characters hasn’t worked for me at all. Poe is fine he didn’t really need an arch. Rey makes absolutely no sense in terms of power and abilities as well as her origin being Palpatine’s granddaughter. Did he have kids? Did his kids have kids? We’re they sith lords? Kylo Ren had a better arch for sure. He had a lot of internal conflict which eventually brought him back to the light. It works well enough. Fin is a huge waste of character. I wish he died on crait as a sacrifice. I’m still a bit confused as to what and who Smoke is. The Knights of Ren were almost more of a waste than Phasma. Hux being the spy felt like a massive shoehorn just to allow the opening flight scene with Poe and Fin on the Falcon. It seemed like a joke to get a cheap laugh. Palpatine’s return didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. He actually did some cool stuff. I really wish Leia had died in TLJ when the torpedoes hit the ship. It was more emotional to me and her death in this movie was weak. I understand that it had to be a bit rushed since Carrie Fisher is dead and all but it still sucked. The title of the movie itself doesn’t make sense to me either. The only Skywalkers in the movie were dead of died. Yes Kylo turned back to the light so I guess that fits the title but Kylo felt like a side character to Rey so the title of the movie being about Kylo is dumb.

I still go see the movies in theaters but a Grievous movie would be amazing.

I might go to see it today.
It will suck.
I know that.
But I am still going to see it.

Its really not that bad. I hope you at least enjoy it!

OK so!
I just came out of it.
I don’t have time to give my full thoughts.
I’ll give you this tho: it was much better than I thought it would be.
Definetely better than the Last Jedi.

Imo, I would probably enjoy watching TPM more than RoS.

I bet that crowd rating will drop later on. Right now it’s probably just a bunch of diehard fans seeing it. The more cynical crowd will arrive later.

You’re saying the diehards aren’t the cynical crowd? In my experience, that is not the case at all.
