Any other Star Trek fans out there who’ve basically jumped ship to this show?

It’s just so much better than the counterpart. New Eden is the sole episode of Discovery so far that’s actually felt like Trek, whereas the Orville has been doing it for a season+
The use of practical effects and the better characters helps so much as well.

Love this show. Season 2 has been pretty good so far and is more Star Trek than current Star Trek is. You can tell a lot of care and love for the genre went into this, and I can’t wait to see more.

The point about characters is an especially good one–Discovery has a handful of characters that have potential, but it’s mostly focused on Burnham, who…just isn’t super interesting. Orville, on the other hand, has a whole cast of characters who are both likeable and have received a fair amount of focus. That makes it more fun to watch, even during the episodes that aren’t as good.
