Modularity Community Star Trek Marathon

First things first, credit to @Lord_Tuma for the idea.

Since the Modcast is going to do another Star Trek discussion within the next few months, I figured it’d be a good idea to help more people get up to speed on the subject so they can understand what the heck we’re talking about. :stuck_out_tongue:

To that end, I’ve decided to organize a community Star Trek-watching marathon!

Here’s how it works: Each week, I’ll select one episode from the Original Series and one from The Next Generation (mostly drawing from the list I already posted in the Modcast topic). Anyone who wants to participate can post their thoughts about the episodes in this topic. I’ll update this post each week with the selected episodes.

That’s pretty much it.

This week’s episodes are:
TOS: This Side of Paradise (Season 1, episode 24)
TNG: Q Who (Season 2, episode 16)

Past weeks

Week 1
The Trouble with Tribbles (TOS season 2 episode 15)
The Game (TNG season 5 episode 6)

Week 2
TOS: Mirror, Mirror (Season 2, episode 4)
TNG: Darmok (Season 5, episode 2)

Week 3
TOS: The Enemy Within (season 1, episode 5)
TNG: The Measure of a Man (Season 2, episode 9)

Have fun, and discuss away!

Now, I’d join in on this, but I don’t feel like investing in another show right now.

Also, what Slime said.

Where can I find the shows? (Legally)

In the US, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu have them all. I think the same applies to Canada, though I’m not 100% sure.

This is something I will look forward to.

Shouldn’t we start with the first episodes?

With Star Trek, most episodes are standalone, and the first episodes aren’t necessarily the most enjoyable (especially in the case of TNG). So I picked episodes that are entertaining but also do a good job of introducing new viewers to the characters.

Oh, alright I’ve only seen parts of a TNG episode

Here’s a question for everyone who’s already watched “The Game”:

Is Pokemon Go the IRL version of the titular game?

Is Nintendo trying to take over the world?

I’m watching"The Trouble with Tribbles", I’m so lost
Edit “Trouble with Tribbles” was great, “The Game is ok so far”

That escalated quickly. :stuck_out_tongue: Anything you’re still confused about?

Yeah, it’s not the greatest episode, but it was the best intro I could think of. Just wait until next week’s TNG episode. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well it’s mainly the I don’t know who anyone is but Kirk and Spock thing

Well, those are the two most important characters. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

McCoy, the ship’s doctor, is also pretty prominent. He’s basically the opposite of Spock: he’s driven by emotion rather than logic.

Scotty is the chief engineer. His character is that he’s Scottish. XD

The other characters never get all that much development. Uhura is the communications officer, Sulu is the helmsman, Checkov is the navigator.

Does that help? :stuck_out_tongue:
