Looking back, Iā€™ve come to like certain other years a lot more now

  1. 2004
  2. 2007 (having bought more sets from this year, Iā€™ve grown to absolutely love it. The story too I quite enjoy)

  4. 2008 (Like 2007, Iā€™ve grown to like this year a lot more too. Not only the Makuta, but the designs of a majority of the Toa have really grown on me (still not big on Gali, though.) The scale and revelations made in the story also made it more appealing for me.)

These are ranked from best to worst, I like them all except 2010, the ones I rated lower are still good but I rate them lower because theyā€™re not quite the same as the others.

Setwise:

  1. Slizer Engineering Master Race 2015 (best sets ever)
  2. Old Slizer Engineering Master Race ruler 2004 (second best sets ever)
  3. Babies Third year of Slizer Engineering 2001 (third best sets ever)
  4. When Inika build tried and succeeded in being creative 2007
  5. Return of the bright colours 2009 (visually a breath of fresh air after years of dark colours silver and grey, build wise was so so)

Honourable mention: 2016 (in terms of looks and enjoyment of the builds I would put it somewhere close to 2009, it tried but was not quite there visually, the Toa were visually downgrades from the 2015 ones)

Storywise:

  1. Metropolis 2004 (future cities is love, future cities is life)
  2. Battle for Giant Robot Bae 2008 (epic final showdown with all the most relevant cast of heroes)
  3. MNOG 2001 (its the year of MNOG, need I say more)
  4. Matoro Rip in peace 2007 (someone actually relevant died and stayed dead, water environment, serious business)
  5. Takanuva, Mary Sue of Light 2003 (Conclusion of MNOGs protagonists arc from loser to Toa)

Honourable Mention: 2009 (It tried to do its own new thing and apart from 2015, it actually succeeded in it)

1.2006 - While the sets are a factor, this is my favorite because me and my best friend collected every set from this year and was the time when our enjoyment for Bionicle was likely at its highest. He also moved far away shortly after this and I didnā€™t see him for quite a while, so I consider this period of time to be very special. We actually rebuilt every 2006 over the course of 2016 when during the few times we visited eachother, unintentionally marking the 10th anniversary of our favorite year of Bionicle.
2.2002 - The Bohrok. The ******* Bohrok. I used to build them with my mum and theyā€™re still her favourite Lego set to this day.
3.2003 - Watching the Bionicle movie with my dad on my birthday (I think) after receiving some of the sets from the movie including Takanuva and Makuta.
4.2001 - My earliest memories are of the Toa Mata, seeing them on store shelves and building / playing with them. I still get really emotional when I think back to them. Lewa Mata was the first Bionicle set I ever recieved.
5.2007 - I still remember seeing that ā€˜creeps from the deepā€™ teaser page that hinted at the Barraki, me and my friends looking at how awesome the new stuff looked. Also the Barraki look really evil.

It was really difficult to decide but these are the years that really hit me right in the feels. I was welling up a little while writing this

I actually really like all of the years. I personally enjoyed everything surrounding the ultimate final battle of 2010. Especially the Makuta vs Mata Nui showdown. That was great and what I have wanted to see for ages.
