They should’ve gone with the RoosterTeeth approach

This looks like a disaster.

The jokes could be funny but they are dragged on for ages and it feels like its just trying to fill up time.

Take the pee joke for instance we see most of that scene going from 1:44 to 2:29. That’s 45 seconds on a single joke - and that’s just the condensed version that we are shown here which is likely skimming about 20-30 seconds at minimum. So this is a joke lasting over a minute in a 90 minute movie… wait…

This is a 90 minute movie…

a 90 minute movie!

Almost an entire minute of that is taken up with a single pee joke? Whats worse is that three other scenes in the trailers have been shown to be the same as this;

  • Red finding the sign which goes on for about a minute also
  • The Pigs arrival as he goes up and down the escalator stairs
  • The ball scene which is shown to be much longer with Red trying to go back to sleep several times

Its worse because none of the aspects of the joke work;

  • Its not a lake but a flowing stream as shown by the waterfalls, if the ‘mighty eagle’ had pee’d in it prior, then it would have likely flowed downstream or been diluted.
  • The two characters actively engage in gross aspects willingly beforehand, spitting water into each others mouths
  • The two characters do not listen to what the trailer tells us is our main character, if they are not listening to the main character of following his advice or progressing his story then its not progressing the plot.
  • The length of the joke also just doesn’t work, even if you are entertained by the joke at first the joke is over the second you see the two characters react. We don’t need to see them get upset or hugging themselves after, that doesn’t keep the joke funny and gives the audience time to acknowledge that they are still hearing a character pee.

===

  • Logically the joke doesn’t work
  • Tonally the joke doesn’t work
  • Pacing wise the joke doesn’t work

Yes, yes it is.

All the jokes they’ve shown are just v

Honestly, its basically the same storyline as the games implied.

Game plot;

  • Birds living happily
  • Pigs invade
  • Steal eggs
  • Birds get angry and fight back using themselves as projectile weapons to destroy the pigs fortress’s and take back the eggs

Film plot;

  • Group of birds with anger management issues
  • Pigs arrive and are welcomed
  • Steal eggs
  • Group of birds with anger management issues decide to use themselves as weapons to fight the pigs.
  • Additional plotline of Pigs wanting to destroy/rule the world or something

You don’t know who the Mighty Eagle is?

Yes, I know who he is, but its the sort of movie where they’ll likely reveal he’s got a really silly name that will forever be his real name with ‘mighty eagle’ being something that everyone believes him to be before they meet him. Seen that trope too many times before.

Personally I’m thinking you’re reading too much into a kid’s movie and a stupid joke. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s the same level. I will watch both, tho.

I don’t expect every kids movie to be written amazingly well, however when we have good strong moral teaching films like The Lego Movie or surprisingly touching films like Kung Fu Panda its a little disappointing when a kids movie remains formulaic and uses the lowest form of humour (And somehow still manages to mess that up)

Plus if it cannot tell the difference between a lake and a flowing stream then something is wrong xD

====

Its like in the pee joke scene, that joke could have worked, but rather than have only two of them break the rules with the main character criticising have them all be exhausted/dehydrated from the climb up the mountain, they see the water and all go in or have a drink from it, then they go find Mighty Eagle and see him pee in the water and we just see a quick ‘disgusted’ reaction shot. That way it progresses the plot and the joke doesn’t drag because the scene is tied in with the characters journey (and being exhausted from the climb)

Same with other jokes, they just need to be condensed and streamlined so that they are progressing the plot at the same time OR just short enough so that they can be done without interrupting the flow of the movie. As I’m sure even if someone enjoys all the jokes in the trailer, at least one of the jokes in this movie will fall flat for you and it could end up being an entire minute of unfunny humour for whoever is watching.

It’s satisfying to know that Ratchet & Clank is coming out before Angry Birds.

So the movie came out…and it has a %42 rating on Rotten tomatoes. That should be a sign of it’s “Quality”

I saw it, it had enjoyable parts, -the beginning and end- the middle was very ‘meh’
