Avoras, Lord of Skull Spiders

Avoras began life as a failed experiment by Makuta to recreate the powers of the mask of control and creation. At first, it seemed to have weak versions of both powers. Able to create copies of itself, and control them. Makuta left the mask in his workshop, considering it a failure. But there was something else, something impossible. A mind was growing within the failed experiment.

It used its limited powers to create a crude body for itself, shaping its form into something large and spiderlike. It created thousands of copies of itself, seeking out hosts to control, hungry for any experiences to feed its growing consciousness.

After the fall of the mask makers, Avoras essentially became the ruler of the island. Her strange, evolving mind saw herself as a guardian rather than an oppressor. Her swarm kept the villages isolated, and the Markoa trapped within their ruined city. Any that ventured out alone were taken as hosts for the swarm.

A heavily modified version of the set. The original frame is still there, with some adjustments. The golden mask is now embedded in the armor on top, to fit my lore for it. The leg squeezing gimmick is still there, but obviously less functional with the extra weight and parts.

It still has only six legs, but is overall more spider-like, and significantly larger than the original. A set of pedipalps were added to the front to give her a way of grabbing and holding things.

I like the character enough that gave her a “Black pin“ upgrade, stripping off all the stupid colors Lego likes to use for technic bits. The difference is minimal, but I really hate those blue pins.

As a bonus, here is a cute ‘creature’ sized build of the same character, representing an earlier body it created.

It has a simple, but effective biting gimmick.

The lower jaw is made with one of my favorite old parts, the hockey player foot.

It can carry the golden spider mask under its abdomen.

The LoSS is looking better than ever. The more spider-like shaping of the moc is quite nice, although I gotta say, I prefer the chibi’s proportions in that regard. How many pieces are added to the original model to make the moc?

Yeah, the way the Chibi one’s abdomen points downwards is more spider-like, the way the jaws work is also based on the ‘stabbing’ fangs of a Mygalomorph spider, like a tarantula. (The fangs can’t pinch, they have to rear up and stab.)

Around 75. Admittedly, 12 or so are just spikes. There’s probably more parts I forgot about buried inside, I have a tendency to pack my models full of compact technic stuff.

I like how you implemented the Golden Mask of Skull Spiders, but what I really love is the adorable baby LoSS. So cute!

I really like that detail–it fleshes out her character more than her just being some one-note giant spider monster, and it adds a bit of sympathy for her.

The LEGO moc you made is bulky and really awesome. Love the photos you put for this. Please make more MOCs.
