Yeah, I’m not too bothered by the gold on Tahu either…it’s surprising actually that I’m a little more bothered by silver on Lewa. Also, I find it ludicrous to need to feminize Gali. I’m sure there are some girls who want to play with Bionicle figures as well…giving one feminine features or feminine clothes would ruin the whole notion of ‘Unity’ as she would look vastly different from her Toa counterparts…which I’m pretty sure LEGO realizes. I mean, nobody knew Korgot was female until the story revealed her to be female. Why? She doesn’t look all that feminine. Being gender neutral I think is great, it breaks away from all those annoying social constructs of what a ‘female’ must look like or what a ‘male’ must look like. Think I’m joking? Pohatu has some features some have already called ‘feminine’ or ‘youthful’. No, these are purely set designs, for a world of characters different from out own. They’re just not using social norms for most of these guys, which I think is great.
So you’re saying you knew Korgot was female before LEGO revealed that she was female? I sure didn’t see it.
I don’t mind the amount of gold but the amount of red worries me.
IMO they should have done it this way: red shells, gold armour except for that new on the upper legs. All bones should be trans orange. Maybe gold hands to match the feet and have a gauntlet feel. Maybe tho.
Have that and add red studs to the front of the new armour piece on the upper legs. Have the lower legs’ back covered better. Maybe turn the lower leg and its armour upside down, including the add on of course.
Well I didn’t know she was female before, but when it was revealed I could see it like that.
Generally speaking I would have liked Gali to have a somewhat feminine appearance like her 2015 counterpart who pulled it off perfectly, but this is coming from the same guy who wants to see a heavily armored female Toa released eventually.
Honestly I don’t care whether or not Gali is feminine enough here because she looks to sport a gender-neutral build this time, as do Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu.
@Fidda So the Star Wars ones don’t put the arms behind the legs? UGH. That’s stupid. The 2015 Toa are better at having anatomically correct proportions than the Star Wars figures (I have Jango). Seriously though, No human being has their arms directly in line with their legs. No one is that flat. People might hunch, but when we stand up straight, our arms are back farther than our legs. I’m GLAD BIONICLE doesn’t use that gearbox. It would be a shame. Heck, since they’re not human, I could even forgive BIONICLE sets for being flat like that, but figures that are supposed to represent humans being flat when they have the parts to fix that? Unforgivable.
On a more positive note, remember how people were always complaing about the lack of back coverage for later BIONICLE and HF sets? 2016 has officially given then MOC-tier back covering. Break out the party poppers!
@Fidda That’s fine, they can keep them. I don’t want BIONICLE figures using that gearbox for future arm functions when we already have a superior one that’s more anatomically correct.
