Bionicle Graphic Novel Discussion

It seems to me that this makes sense as its own topic, especially since there’s more GNs coming eventually.

So, the first GN came out. I, personally, loved it. It had great representations of the Toa’s personalities except Lewa and Gali. Pohatu’s chapter, IMO, is the best thing ever to come out of BIONICLE G2. However, it has several flaws.

  1. The Toa, Masters of hitting things with their weapons and fists (looking at you, Tahu). Only Gali uses her elemental power. Plus, only Kopaka actually uses all his weapons. Gali’s axe, Lewa’s axes, Onua’s claws (can kinda forgive that one tho), Tahu’s silver swords, they are nonexistent.
  2. The Protectors suffer from a severe case of HF syndrome: “Everything is a blaster, we must only ever use our blasters, and all blasters are alike.” At least they actually hit stuff, unlike the “heroes.”
  3. Gali’s chapter is dumb. Seriously, somebody in the creative department got lazy here. The dialogue is the animations verbatim, with the names changed and one line switched. Even worse considering it means it gives Gali and Kivoda the personalities of Narmoto and Tahu.
  4. Poohatu’s line “Now that we’ve defeated LoSS, all the islanders under his control are free.” A: Why would he know this, since it’s obvious even the Protector’s didn’t know that. B: Pohatu was wrong. Why did they include a line that is flat-out misinformation? I could forgive IoLM, since RoSS retconned some things in the book like the Golden Masks shattering, but this came out at the same time as RoSS. They should have fixed that lie.

Things that are kinda odd, but don’t really bother me:

  1. The Toa have their normal masks in the last two chapters. (just getting the Tahtorak out of the room)
  2. Only the Toa, Protectors, LoSS, Ekimu, and Makuta – no other named characters.
  3. No mention of the summer stuff.

That aside, though, the GN was great. What did you guys think?

I enjoyed it for what it was: a retelling of the first half of the 2015 story line. And besides the coloring and text issues I did enjoy it.

Really looking forward to Battle of The Mask Makers. The title is really interesting, doesn’t seem to be about the second half of 2015’s story atleast.

I loved Pohatu’s chapter. It hints that he still has the same personality.

I just finished reading GN2, and I thought it would be a good idea to make this. :relaxed: (obviously). I really liked the novel a lot. To discuss, I think we should think of a topic in the book until we decide to move to the next. Kay? Kay! And I understand if a lot of you haven’t even received the book yet. I’ll wait for at least 10 people to finish. (If it’s fine with you) Also, possible spoilers!

Welp, time to order it from Amazon.

I’ve got the book in the mail today, but haven’t started reading it yet; but I will later tonight. Should be an interesting read.

The second Graphic Novel was amazing.

Definitely what we needed to flesh out the world building.

I have a mighty need for both halfs of Mask of Time released in G2 form.

I want someone to make a 3-D model of it.

I dont, they will be expensive as heck. LEGO should just release both halves officially.

Maybe G2 heads will be G1 compatible, thus being able to combine the vahi for fans who have it?

I would think Lego’s just gonna stick with the same heads.

I’m so excited for GN2! :mask: I reserved it at the library but when picking it up, the book was gone, so it looks like some greedy Bionicle fan ruined my instant gratification. Do those that have read it think it was better or worse than the first?

The second graphic novel is definitely better. Just like the second book. They tell a lot of good story when they aren’t constrained by just re-telling the 2015 story for the hundredth time!

I didn’t know libraries got their books that quick

EDIT: wow they actually do…just reserved the book on my local library. I am number 10 in line though :expressionless:

I wonder if the biomechanical birds on Okoto (as shown in the BoMM book) sounds like this:

It turns out LJ was sorta right.
It was all info we knew happened, but now we got to see it in a good light.
