Bionicle: The Musical (Community Project)

So, I remember a while ago, when TTV interviewed (I think it was Merlin Mann, I have honestly forgotten by now), they brought up, as a joke, Bionicle the Musical as an idea. I had been thinking about this idea for some time, and I’m just now posting it. So. What if a bunch of us could make a Bionicle Musical, following G1 throughout the original run (since we have the whole story there). There are, of course, a couple of questions which would need to be answered before we would begin writing/performing songs:

1: Who and what are we going to write about? We would obviously have to have at least one song per year of G1, but would we do songs in-depth as Miserix and the League of 6 Kingdoms? Or just stick to general stuff?

2: How would we work the songs? We could make parodies of prewritten songs, or we could try to make our own. More importantly, how would we communicate to one another? I mean, if this is to be done, we should definitely work together to write the script and music, but we would have to decide who would sing the song… maybe have the script written, and have several people sing it…

3: Can we actually get this done? Even though this wouldn’t be done by TTV, I don’t want this going the way of BioCraft.

I hope to see replies.

I mean I guess it could be done with a ton of work.

First I doubt cast members would have the time to work on this but who knows.

Second if this was to be done it would be mostly be done by community members rather than the cast

Third it would requiere for most participants to animate (if it was to be a musical as a cartoon) which requieres time and patience and most importantly organization. To add to this you would need voice actors, which I’m not sure how many would be willing to do so.

All and all not a bad idea, but if it is to be executed properly it would need lots and lots of work

As @White_Rainbow said, this looks like it’ll be a lot of work. However, as a community project, it just might come to fruition.

What if they do the 2015 Story
It could be somewhat of a stage preformance done by the villagers dressing up

Seems intresting

  1. I think that going in depth as the actual story went would be good, but into te side stories. Following the main characters for the year and focusing on them, leavong out interactions they didn’t witness.

  2. original songs would be tough, as i doubt we have a bunch of composers and the boards, although it would be cool. Parodies would be much easier, but quality might be lacking. It really is up to how much effort is put in.

  3. Depends on the support and organization. It won’t get done without a group of dedicated, hard working, and organized people. None of those qualities describes me /s if it is to be animated or stop motion that would require even more time and organization, and would require certian skills and owning the sets.

Pretty much if you don’t get extremely hard working people who have a lot of free time and are good at singing, and want to do this, this won’t get done. I doubt that this will get done, but it would be nice to see done.

I mean lots of nice ideas could appear but then again, if people aren’t dedicated enough this project could crumble in a few weeks (not saying it will or should, just that it could happen if people do not participate correctly)

And btw

I will not be participating on this, I am too busy with my own stuff.

I’m interested in helping out. I’m fairly busy with HSC, however I can compose, although not write lyrics too well.

Well, might as well offer my services as a amateur cellist (someone who plays cello)
So that’s what i have to offer.

Alright. Thanks everyone.

I’m not sure if we can purely follow the main character of the year, while sticking to side stories (If I understand what you’ve said). Maybe we should do the main character and his story of the year first, and then go off. For instance, I think Nidhiki kind of deserves a song, although he wasn’t a truly major character, but if a song is to be written of him, then we should do the more important characters first.

I think that we should not do the 2015 story YET. I would prefer G1 finished, then on to G2.

That’s great, Doremar; I consider myself fairly decent at writing lyrics, should music be provided.

Omega, that cello may be incredibly useful.

Well now. Might as well jump into the basics: Should we start the songs in 2001, 2004, or during The Core War (I just put the last one here as an option, as it is the oldest well-chronicled event I could think of. We could also write a song about it IF we survive long enough to get to 2009.).

Thanks again.

Les Maskerables I think 04 would be the best place to start, since, chronologically, It’s the beginning of the story. I could sing if you like, also.

This is very interesting.

Time to start preparing for a barraki solo.

If you need any help I can try my best at something, this seems to be amazing if it ever becomes a thing

If it were up to me, it would be as in depth as possible, but I can’t think of many people who would be willing to sit through a 17 hour musical about a toy line. I do think that there should be more than one song per year, though. I think we should make the songs original, and I would be willing to try to write and sing some of them. I think this could really become a thing- I mean, you have unique premise, colorful and original visuals, and an epic story- What more could you want?
I think that we should start with '01, and that it should be live action. I can’t play anything, but I know someone who is a self proclaimed “garage band god”, but he would probably only help us if we were really serious about this.

Here’s an opening song I just made. Trust me, I sing better than I write songs.
Pleas don’t edit this, I can’t figure out how to link a file.

I’m sorry, I cannot access your link, darkbrick. I don’t know why. Hopefully, you will correct this error, so that we may see your work. Now I’m not sure if we can do live-action. We may be able to do stopmotion, but I don’t know anyone with all the sets of the year, let alone all the sets assembled. I do have one assembled Tarakava (light green/blue), and both Nui Rama assembled, but that’s where it ends. Any others from that year are broken down into MOCs. We’ll get to your musical friend later. As to the “17 hour musical” comment, I think we could break it up in to parts fairly easily.

Voriki, it’s good of you to offer your services as a do-whatever’s-needed (If I read your post correctly). We need people like you.

Lurking, I assume you would like to be the voice of Ehlek. I’m a Mantax fan myself.

Finally, in this lengthy post, I think we should do 01 first (partly because, if we do parodies, it would be easy to copy the start of Don Mclean’s “American Pie” for the start of 04 : “A long, long time ago, I can still remember…” and the rest of the lyrics are changed and Bionicle-ized.). Also, because I like the pretense of 01 a little more than 04, and 01 released first.

Sorry for lengthy posts—I only post when I have a lot of things to say.

I could help with a few song parodies and possibly a bit of script (especially Lewa and Matau bits.)

Here, I just copied and pasted it.

Vakama’s song

Welcome gathered friends,
And listen to our tale
Of the legend of the bionicle;
Of villains who asial,

And heroes who would fight on,
No matter what the odds,
To fulfill their destiny,
And what a destiny it was.

For in the time before time,
The great spirit had descended,
And with himself brought we,
Bit his reign was shortly ended.

For when he brought we the ones called matoran,
We were in disunity,
So he gave us the three virtues,
Unity, duty, destiny.

And we praised him for it,
But with praise comes jealousy,
And the evil Makuta,
Betrayed Mata Nui.

He cast him into a deep slumber,
And made his shadows rise,
But luckily for us,
Six heroes fell from the skies.

Thier destiny was to reawaken,
The great spirit from his sleep,
And also to free us
From the Makuta’s shadows deep.

As I said, trust me, I sing better than I write songs.

Well, though I can’t think of it as a song very well, it is an amazingly done poem. This could be worked on to create a song, however. Maybe if we could make the verses longer, then it would work as a song. Still, amazing work right from the start.

I think this would be a fun idea; I feel as if people were to do this it should be a brand new song, but not include actual Bionicle copywrighted names and such so that those people can reap the benefits of their hard work (they could get money for it).

Personally, I can sing (not really high notes though) and am not too bad a writing.
Here is an unfinished song I started a while ago (in the song, commas(,) are beats):

Once upon a time, we will fight, day or night,
Once upon a day, we protect, they will slay,

Yet our fortress is breaking, our defenses are shaking,
Yet we will not back down, no not back down…

When darkness, rises, and liii, iight dies,
When we are, defeated, yet still liii, iisten to lies,
When are mentors, sacrifice, theeii, iir lives,
When our woooorrrlllddd dies…

We fight!, We protect!, and we nee,ver forget!,
We serve!, We learn!, and the tiii, ides turn!,
We live, by a code!, and we travel, where we need to go!,
We change!, We become!, We unite and, turn into one!,

So yeah, What do you guys think?

I like the song, although, if we don’t use the official names, what names would we use? They would have to be similar enough to retain recognition, bit different enough as to not get us sued.
