Could BIONICLE have existed as a separate brand/company?

Bionicle. Very popular toy line of Lego, but if you didn’t know, most people didn’t really know BIONICLE was Lego, at least, I didn’t back when I was a kid.
If you remember the old BIONICLE canisters, like say, the Rahkshi or Bohrok, the Lego logo was barely noticeable, or it was really small and placed somewhere else on the canister, while the BIONICLE lettering and logo was really big and noticeable. I’m looking at my Nokama canister and the Lego logo is at the bottom right side of the front canister. Nowadays, the 2015 BIONICLE always has the Lego logo before the lettering of BIONICLE.

BIONICLE saved Lego from their financial crisis back in 2000 and ever since then, BIONICLE was one of the most popular toy lines ever, especially in Lego. But, the design of BIONICLE was so…different. It wasn’t bricks or stuff like that, but BIONICLE was action figure like. You had so many of these unique pieces that really didn’t look like Lego made them, such as the Mata legs, Arms, torsos, and even the masks. BIONICLE was defiantly unique and this leads me to ask this:

Question: Do you you think BIONICLE could’ve existed as a different Brand/Company?

It would’ve either ended up successful or as… one of those things Megablocks made when they wanted to rival Lego in the robotic organisms…

Galidor had little to no recognition as a LEGO product, not even with the LEGO logo on the products, often. And we all know how that ended.

It’s an interesting question to say the least. Honestly though, I sort of doubt it, given it would need a very, very strong following, and a lot more marketing than it had originally since there was no Technic or Lego brand recognition. this would be extremely hard if this is a brand new company.
If another toy company did it, I seriously doubt they sets would be of as high quality, since Lego has a particularly high quality standard, and the story could go either way.

No.
