I know you can ask a mod to close a topic, but why can’t you just delete it yourself? For one, it takes time for a mod to close a topic, and two, I just enjoy being able to get things done quicker.

Then that’s your own problem
I will refer you to the official discourse forum (which is what the boards is built upon). Basically it’s just part of how the platform was built. There’s no easy way to modify it. And we for the most part agree with the justifications made by the admins on this discussion:
