Discord alternatives

On X (formerly known as Twitter), there was news of Discord postponing the global age-verification check due to a huge backlash, as well as a reminder of a data breach that had happened on October with over 70000 IDs being exposed when Discord was using a third party service provider. They ended the relationship with Persona, but that doesn’t mean that Discord will stop the antics. That being said I am starting to doubt Discord more. I am making this post because I need your opinion on which alternatives you think are better. Some people are moving to Teamspeak but there were some bad reviews, there was Stoat (formerly known as Revolt) but this does not have screen sharing, Fluxer and Matrix. I want your opinions of what you think is the better alternative.

What, and go outside? Touch grass?? :face_vomiting:

Steam’s been crafting an extremely Discord-like alternative inside their app; haven’t looked at it personally, but I’ve seen people talking about it. Poor audio quality in calls through Steam was one of the reasons Discord became a popular alternative in the first place, and it sounds like Steam has that fixed as well.

Wish they’d just integrate it into the Steam launcher itself, I get tired of having 2 more windows open just to see who’s pinging me.

for the more techy people out there, matrix and xmpp are open source and self hostable alternatives, though they require a bit of work from the people setting them up, and youll have to find a good client for your freinds to use.

Im actually working on setting up a matrix domain for my freinds after seeing the news, we had thought about one previously, but now its a more serious option
