Lego League? What is THAT?

I’m part of the Lego CLUB, but I’ve never heard of the Lego League.

Here watch and enjoy:

First Lego League is a competition between teams from schools all around the world. Half of the competition is using an NXT robot that your team designed to complete several themed missions. The other half is having a presentation related to that theme.

For example, one of the years that I was in FLL, the theme was Body Forward. Our robot had to complete missions such as delivering a syringe or getting a nerve signal to a brain (all challenges are built from Lego). We also did a presentation on an app which functioned very similar to calling 911.

My team made it to the state championships two years in a row, meaning, we made it to the qualifying tournament to see who would represent Maryland. We didn’t qualify, but we made it there.

I did this. Long story short- It sucked.

Did this back in 2009-2010, if I remember the years correctly. My team’s robot sucked but it was really fun regardless.

FLL was one of those things that probably would have been more enjoyable, had I a better team. Seriously, one of the kids literally did nothing to help us.

All of the programming was left up to myself and one other kid. And the environment-related research project was done almost entirely by me. And I build about half of the robot. And…

Yep. Fun, though.

The second year I did it, I was in 8th grade, and the 5 or so other kids were in 6th grade. Needless to say, I did a lot. But several of them did contribute and actually did very well.

We only had it for 4th and 5th grade here. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was for middle school for me.

At high school we had VEX robotics, which was so much cooler.

Ah! I remember this now. In middle school, there was a club called Lego Robotics. I didn’t take it, though.

I seriously wanted to, bu at the same time, I didn’t know a lot about programming, so…

Not that difficult to program. Just drag and drop icons, pretty much.

I sometimes wonder if I should have joined one of these things

then I remember that I can’t program

or build

so I’d be this guy:

I did that a couple years ago. My team had 1 of the best presentations but that was about it.

Yeah, that was approximately my experience with it.

We won the championship AND robot game!!

and then we went to nationals and won nothing.

Still, it’s a really fun thing to do, even if the lego mindstorm robots are a little unreliable and frustrating.

I also had a team of 10 year olds who did nothing but cause trouble. Next time it shall be the alpha team.
