I come from a foreign country where we do not have Halloween. I once heard a very intriguing description from my English teacher. She said it is day on which Englishmen believe that dead walk the earth as ghosts. People dress as the dead on Halloween to make the ghosts comfortable amongst the living, they light lanterns for ghosts to find their way, and they give offerings of food to dead relatives. People too poor to provide lanterns at least light a candle inside a carved pumpkin. That all sounds very nice and wholesome. Is that accurate description of Halloween?

From the description, I do not understand why so many people in this topic dislike the holiday. Can someone explain it? I heard Americans celebrate it differently.

well some people think that the holiday is demonic
some people don’t and that’s as much as i will say about that matter.

See, Halloween is like a big costume party that happens based off of celtic traditions- american halloween and british halloween are basically the same but the americans go a bit more crazy for it. On 31st october folks dress up and kids go around asking for free candy in what is known as “trick or treating.” some people also watch horror movies.

Now that i think about it this video from Dude Perfect basically explains halloween, albeit in a parody/satire way.

does this help?

Thanks a lot for explanation!

When I said here, I meant this topic, not my country. I will attempt to be more clear when posting, but I am not sure if I will be successful.

(I am apparently bad at explaining anything clearly. This is not first time I expressed myself incorrectly.)
