It’s in Brick by Brick: How Lego Rewrote the Rules of Innovation and Conquered the Global Toy Industry.
But 100%… That’d mean nobody bought any other LEGO product at any major retailer or Legoland theme park.
But… 100% of LEGO’s profits? Town, Castle and Star Wars weren’t getting them anything?
Granted, I originally read that as “100% of LEGO’s revenue”, which is much harder to believe. ![]()
Not so! It would mean that production/maintenance costs outweighed the money they made on those things.

I know I butchered that, but still! ![]()
LEGO would not consciously make a product that would bring in nothing.
Yes. 100%. I’ll grab the quote.
“In 2003 - the year the rest of LEGO came crashing down - Bionicle’s soaring sales accounted for approximately 25 percent of the company’s total revenue and more than 100 percent of its profit (as the rest of the company was tumbling to a net loss), making it a finacial anchor in turbulent times.”
Not intentionally
But if nobody wants their products, not much they can do.
Think about it like an accountant: let’s say it costs 50 million dollars to license and produce this year’s Star Wars sets.
But for whatever reason, people have lost interest in LSW, and they only sell 45 million dollars of products.
My understanding is that something along those lines happened in 2003.

I was not thinking about it that way. Thanks.
Did you know Avatar: The Last Airbender had it’s own LEGO Theme?
Yeah. I know this one is pretty well known, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
It and Lego star wars
Never mind I just realized he said profits not revenue
Scala, a LEGO Theme that was similar to Barbie Dolls, was originally a line of LEGO-Branded Jewelry.
Ah, now I remember that. ![]()
Fun Fact:
The small holes in the stud on a minifig head is made so that kids who manage to get the head stuck in their throats are still able to breathe.
Another fact:
LEGO ditched that head design.

Did you know Lego is "I put together " in Latin?
Yet, you forgot to mention the intention phrase of “Leg Godt”, which is Danish for “Play Well”.
Well I decided to mention the coincidental one which some people might not know
