LEGO Prototypes Discussion

I see it.

I’ve just been on BS01 and found some interesting stuff:

Nui-Jaga, apparently without teeth

Makuta prototype with some minor differences such as white hands

Gold and white Takua

takua also uses the slizer/rahkshi arms here, which ended up being the basis for the arm designs of all movie matoran despite not being featured in the final sets

Omg we were robbed of a golden Takua

We can make that Av-Matoran Takua with a combination of standard LEGO parts and 3D printing parts.

Oh, sure enough! Nice catch- I didn’t even see that.

I was recently checking out the instructions for the Speed Slammers Technic sets from 2000, and I noticed that the “alternate build” images at the back of the instructions use prototype versions of 32249 Technic, Liftarm, Modified L-Shape Quarter Ellipse Thin 3 x 3 and 32250 Technic, Liftarm, Modified L-Shape Quarter Ellipse Thin 3 x 5:

I wish we’d gotten that version of Nexo Knights… would’ve been a cool AU.

Are those newly released images of those sets? I remember that previously, we only had two very blurred leaked pictures of the box art of those two sets. How come LEGO decided to give us actual official full HD phots of those sets now? Either way, I am very grateful we can now properly see those sets… The 501 Trooper and Walker set would have been such an amazing set, and honestly it would have probably been quite popular given how much Star Wars fans are into the 501 Legion stuff.

I think the SBD may just be the set prototype, because it looks pretty rough compared to the AT-RT. Looks like a kitbash of a droid action figure with slapped-together arms (the hands look terrible in terms of construction, while the torso is both highly-detailed and seems to have used the whole budget for the figure: it even has a proper back panel, which they never did for that line).

Not really. Obviously we know now that’s the GSR, but back in 2006 it would’ve been just “some robot guy”. It wouldn’t be until 2008 when we could say “oh, THAT’S what that was”

Both of them were fully finalised, that’s just what the B2 was going to look like

Oh, ok. Interesting.

It looks like no one before posted these, so I’ll make up for it:

Aquaman Ultra-build figure concept:

Superman Ultra-build figure concept:

We had information about a Wolverine previously, but it seems LEGO really wanted to do more of these before they jumped on G2 & the SW figures in 2015.

I’m glad they didn’t, those figures were terrible :face_vomiting:

I like how Superman has 3 arms

Are those armor pieces on the knees new variations of part 98592? Those look like they could have been very useful and versatile. During this time Hero Factory was really lacking in terms of having diverse armor add-on elements, so those new pieces would have been a welcome addition.

Also, would Aquaman have had a brand new, fully molded staff piece? I think that would have been an awesome piece to get that would have by itself made the set’s existence worth it in my opinion.

The choice of making Superman’s armor brick built out of CCBS elements seems very strange, though. Those could have been some interesting pieces, but I am surprised they didn’t just go with a standard cloth fabric piece instead…

Well I so glad that we dodge that bullet.

Honestly, IDK…
I can see why you two aren’t too fond of these, but at the very least, they could’ve provided more recolors and armor add-ons while broadening the CCBS parts catalogue.
Though they probably would’ve suffered from the same issues as the other ultrabuilds did if they were released like this.

From what I can make out of these pics, yeah, I think so.
It definitely would’ve been a great addition for the other add-ons.
I also like the fin-like parts on Aquaman’s elbows and the back of his lower legs.
Those would’ve looked pretty good on G2 Gali Master, IMO.
