Answer: mutation. The Shadow Leech and exposure to the energies of Kardas Nui mutated Takanuva. So it can reasonably be argued that his gaining fingers in this set is merely a result of random mutation, not a form of evolution.

Again, mutation. Between 2001 and 2010, Tahu got dunked in Energized Protodermis, got Adaptive Armor, and went through three sets. Also, I believe that in the comics it’s implied that his right arm on his Mata form has a hand, as he can grab his sword with it as seen in the animations. Plus, the Stars sets were made using 2009-10 parts, as the Mata hand piece/Slizer hand wasn’t in use at the time.
