My Red Star zombie. Ingis, Fairy man of the redstar lore update.

Much of the criticism I just read seems unfounded and irrelevant

I think the feet are an appropriate size, given the precedent established with two-toed piraka feet relative to the sets they were on. Exaggerated proportions have long been a component of Bionicle design

Easy there buck, criticism is only valuable if it’s constructive.

Define the negative value, don’t just assign it

Fun but rude

This doesn’t really have anything to do with the Engineer or this topic at all

If Droconis wants to share his work with someone he admires, that’s really his prerogative. They can engage if they like. You and I don’t really get a say there.

Now as for the moc itself, maybe it’s got some degree of trouble holding itself up. Fine enough, large scale Bionicle mocs, especially bipedal ones, can get a little top heavy. I don’t have to tell you to keep working at it. I know you will, considering the amount of reworks and adjustments you post for each moc.

My only criticism worth saying aloud has to do with greebling and color palette. I do have a hard time distinguishing key features, like facial details, and likewise distinguishing different sections of the build. I think smoother components and a slightly brighter or more distinct color palette would help with that.

My favorite aspect is easily the head function, I appreciate that you can make it work cleanly while being hollow enough to contain the smaller head. I also think the arms are sufficiently long, reaching to the knees much like the Inika builds Lego produced. Otherwise I think you’re doing good, and I look forward to the next update as well.

Fair. Understood.
Definitely too harsh of me, and you are generally correct.
My apologies.

Okay one. it has shrunk down more as I rebuild the lower legs so it’s just a little bit smaller than Rapax now. Two I’m not trying to be better than everyone else. I just like to build the way I do. Three the moc is inspired by Fnaf springtrap, two the mutate zombie from resident evil, the creepy psycho doctor from Outlast. The other parts I thought of myself for story purposes. If you want I’ll post pictures of ever single character I got inspiration from for this one. None of them come from the dead space saga. Just the ones I made before this one are.

Feet dont really seem to be too bad, just too big.
I think i made too big of a stink about this…

I want it to have some what the same toes it’s just the connection making it too big. Like you said.

Let’s cool it down here guys (which thankfully seems to be already happening) or else I’m going to be handing out warnings. Some of the comments made here were uncalled for. Athena, if you have an issue outside of the moc itself with Droconis, please take it up with them in a PM instead of in an unrelated topic

Getting back to the topic at hand, overall, I like the look of this guy. My only real moc critique is that he might need a bit more red on the legs as they’re pretty much just black. My other critique is that the lighting (specifically on the first two front-facing shots) isn’t the best, which means it’s a bit hard to see details due to the moc being dark colors

I was thinking about that. For the colors that is. Also I am going to get a new phone soon so that will help with pictures a lot.

So I have been working on this one a bit more and at the beginning it had problems with the lower torso popping apart and the build itself would fall apart too. But this new torso design is a little bit bulky at the back and which is a weird look to me. I don’t know let me know what you think? But otherwise than that It is completely possible now and if I move two of the Avatar hair cables I can get him into a Crab crawl like the Baterra. Otherwise here he is.

Here’s some up close pics of his guts

The build I used was to make it look like his lower half is getting more skeletal like but this back bit looks off to me and will more than likely change.

Otherwise I hope you all enjoy this update :+1:

I think I made him look like he just drink a big cup of nightmare fuel.

When he’s in the carb crawl. I don’t know but it looks more like a deep sea creature.

I also upgraded the chest it’s self so it looks a bit more organic.

Hope you all enjoy this new upgrad.:+1:I’m working on the engineer again and this next upgrade will give the moc some more posability and less black on the outsides.

Nice. I really like the use of the translucent elements

I felt his arms were a little short and looked like they could use some lengthening. So I added some friction adders and some more of those new ring pieces for fillers within the arms.

And here’s an up close look of the arm

I hope Lego creates more of these ring weapons in more colors. They are extremely useful. I hope you all enjoy :+1:

https://youtu.be/ZN4dfWswtoc?si=ffdTkFiycptFAOBl BenCossy doesn’t want to read any of the things I sent, mainly story stuff. If you watch any of the videos that feature my moc’s he does add the story or even give references to it. I know he’s usually busy. But he has been emailing me back and the last one that I sent was for the Red Star zombies. He message back saying, I can see you put a lot of work into these, and of course I’ll be happy to give a shout out to the Creator on Etsy I thought he read it and I was excited to see them on the series. But the day they came out. I was disappointed. He didn’t read anything I sent or showcase some of the best shots. I don’t want someone using my creations for content without giving the accurate information. He thinks the leaper is a older version of Matoro, even though I sent him photo side by side of each other.

To be completely fair here, I’ve never seen Cossy discuss character lore and backstory in his Bionicle Inspiration Series. After all, it’s all about building techniques and showing what can be achieved within the format of the Bionicle building system in order to inspire people to build. At no point does this involve anything writing-related.

My stuff has been featured on his show quite a few times at this point (half of it was without my request or involvement) and he’s gotten things wrong here and there about my builds, but I don’t really expect him to get all the background details right all the time, given how he primarily focuses on the visual and technical aspects of the builds he showcases

I wouldn’t really hold this against the dude to be honest, he’s just trying to do his job

I know he’s trying to do his job. It’s more of the rude emails he sends back, which I will not show for privacy purposes. He said he would give a glimpse of the back story. His words. Not asking him to read the whole thing

Kinda hard to believe Ben Cossy would rudely reply in an email when he agreed to showcase your moc in the first place

He most likely did take a glimpse at it and not read the whole thing, since he got some of the details wrong. If he had echoed correctly all the nuances of the story, it would be hard to believe he didn’t rigorously read it.

However, story really isn’t his forte, and his whole channel is about mocs and building techniques. He gave you a free shoutout just because you asked him to. He talked at length about the good qualities of your moc at the same length that he has discussed some of the best mocs he’s ever showcased. Significantly more people have been made aware of your work now because of his shoutout.

I don’t see how this is a loss for you just because he didn’t cite the story correctly.

I second this. To be fair, he makes the kind of videos where lore is thrown out the window, and the design is more seen in an objective light. Kinda hard to fit ALL that lore into a small section, as he makes them very rapid fire.

That maybe true about more people knowing about my moc’s this way, and yes it very much was, especially when he didn’t include the backstory behind the mask which is one one he said he would include. Either way, more than likely he’s not going to showcase my creations again.

This is all I asked for him to include.

Gonna be real, that’s a lot, even for someone who does focus on the lore aspects of MOCs.

For context, Ben Cossy wasn’t required to show your MOC at all. He likely agreed to take a look at the lore and potentially include it in the video but decided against it in post after seeing how verbose and ultimately secondary it was compared to the point behind the MOC - that of a Red Star zombie. The intricate details of a variation of an existing mask won’t be that interesting for his general audiences, would eat up time he could spend talking about the MOC itself, and ultimately doesn’t add anything to the design of the MOC to know this lore. Knowing the details of the mask now, I can’t say I view either of the MOCs any differently than I did before.

At the end of the day, I still don’t see how any of this is an issue. He politely spent several minutes complimenting just about every aspect of your creation, had almost nothing negative to say about the entire MOC, gave you a decent portion of his otherwise not very related video, and you got free publicity out of the whole thing. I didn’t create the MOC, and I didn’t write the backstory, so I’m of course going to have a very outsider perspective to the whole thing, but getting mad at Bet Cossy for not including a fairly arbitrary piece of lore that doesn’t improve the quality of the MOC at all by its inclusion when he’s already giving you free publicity and pretty much only saying good things about it feels a lot like complaining for no good reason.

I’m not Ben Cossy and I don’t have a marketable voice or appearance to build a Youtube career off of. But if I gave up my time on my Youtube video to showcase someone else’s creation, discuss it in great detail, only ever compliment it, and got flamed for it by the creator for leaving out a fairly obscure piece of lore that most people wouldn’t understand regarding its inclusion, I wouldn’t be immediately inclined to feature any more of that person’ creations, either.

I took these pictures to show that the leaper got into a barrel of nightmare fuel. It may have some different colors thanks to lego “substituting” colors for parts they didn’t have in stock. Alongside some weird new misprint parts.

I will be posting my skeletal zombie Centre soon.
