The
idea that love or romance not existing in the MU has always bugged me a
little bit, so i decided to take it up with Greg on the Lego Chat With
Greg Farshtey board. This was his response:
Basically he said that, although romance was a thing that the Matoran
and other inhabitance of the MU never had, that wasn’t because they
physically couldn’t feel it. Rather it was a case that they simply
didn’t KNOW it. However, once they came to Sphereus Magna, it is
possible that they could learn the emotion from the inhabitance (i feel
that the answer was probably left vague because this fanbase can be a
little reactionary sometimes and he knows that better than most).
So yeah, i guess you can teach an AI to love.
edit: As per Eljays suggestion, im gonna break down what Greg means a little. BEFORE the reformation of Sphereus Magna, Matoran COULD NOT love. AFTER the reformation of Sphereus Magna, it is possible they they could learn too from the Agori. So, sadly, Hewkii x Macku and Matau x Nokama still ain’t canon.

*Romance can be introduced to MU inhabitants of Spherus Magna
*Velika is from Spherus Magna
*Velika is responsible for giving people emotions
This is of course true. I feel some of the people here may have… misinterpreted what Greg said slightly. That being said, i think the “there is no telling” part was put there in order to not make it definite one way or another, and thus not annoy half the fanbase. Although its definitely isn’t a yes, i’d say it is also not a no, and so people should just interperate it as they like. As long as we follow the chronology of the nessesary events correctly and know that Hewkii x Macku did not and could not happen, we’ll be fine.
