Official BIONICLE: Journey to One Discussion Topic

I just have to say, 0 outta ten, Akida doesn’t flop around on the ground, like a real fish, @prpldragon knows what I’m talking about…

Am I the only one who thought of Legends of Metru Nui when Tahu said the team needed to follow the light to get through the maze? Reminded me so much of Lhikan.

I love how shadow was used, better than it was used in G1 in my opinion

I didn’t notice that, cool now that you pointed it out

I just watched episode 1 all huddled up with Tahu and Kopaka on my desk, OPINION TIME
I nearly got teary eyed throughout the whole thing, I just love Bionicle so much man.
I really like the animation and graphics and things, it’s top notch.
Also… Whoa, I guess we know how to build ice traps now! Pretty cool design, tbh.
TO BRICKLINK!

Okay, onto the negative points.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times; I really don’t like the voice acting.
Most of the characters sound more or less the same, with the exception of Ekimu and Gali.
As for the rest, I can’t even tell whether there’s one or several VA’s here. If there ARE several male voice actors for the toa… Lego, you could’ve saved a lot of money and just keep one on the clock.

Another complaint I have is how some of their personalities, while still being described the same way, have changed.
Kopaka GIGGLES, for Ekimu’s sake, he’s way too giddy for a toa of ice. Kopaka wouldn’t say stuff like ‘‘That was good, lol no that was great oh well back to work hahaha’’
Pohatu is dumb as a rock, which I’ll admit makes sense, but it’s just a big contrast with his super serious 2015 portrayal. A bit like Knuckles’ transformation in Sonic Boom, really.

Those are my biggest complaints. Still very happy with the show though

Lewa literally points out that Pohatu needs to start using his… eyestalk…
To which Pohatu replies ‘‘I don’t get it’’
We all know kids’ media and now they establish character traits, and this is how they establish that Pohatu is a bit stupid, in an adorable way :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed on the shadow thing. This is what I’m loving about the new BIONICLE. Now we have a sense of mysticism and stuff like that. Umarak teleporting through shadows and producing shadow traps makes me think of a G1 Makuta that could have been.

Pohatu’s main part of the story was also pretty great, although him not liking scorpions I will admit seemed like a weak excuse. Oh well. Still good regardless.

He’s only stubborn, not dumb.

Ya pohatu is still my favorite toa for g2, this just boosted that even more.

Also for those that want to see what it looks like, the ice shadow trap from the show:

(spoiler this mods if this counts as spoilers, but it’s a build and ya know, it the first 10 seconds of the first episode)

I personally would not see that as spoilers, but that’s just my thoughts on it. The other mods may think differently.

I dunno, I had no trouble telling them apart.

But if I never hear that filter again, it will be too soon.

Well from what I read here I should get Netflix to watch JTO at some point. Happy to know it wasn’t bad, but was good.

As somebody who has been famously critical of BIONICLE G2’s visual media thus far, I can tell you that Journey to One not only met, but surpassed my expectations. It wasn’t perfect, and there were certainly a few minor things that I didn’t enjoy all that much (some jokes falling flat, some awkward moments, etc.), but I feel that it was overall pretty fantastic. I’m very pleased with how this has all turned out.

The thing that left the biggest impression on me, funnily enough, was that the prologue somewhat confirms that the 2015 animations could be perceived as a singular narrator telling a story to children, which was a common interpretation early last year. This is a good thing, and makes them a lot better in retrospect, because it provides justification for their somewhat condensed nature, the singular voice actor, Gali having a male voice… it all makes sense and adds up in a way that actually enriches the canon. So that was nice.

Really looking forward to discussing this on the next episode of the TTV Podcast!

im going to be honest

i thought that other than the spectacular animation the show fell pretty flat

the voice acting was bad, all the male toa sounded too similar, the way that the actors spoke the sentences was just bleh, and there were moments where the whole show seemed to forget to add audio. that annoys me probably the most. lots of the time the music is at a weird volume like a whisper when its ment to be an action scene. also all that hype for how awesome the maze will be and the toa beat it in like under 3 minutes. it wasnt even that hard! what about all the booby traps, falling spikes, Indiana Jones boulders and giant swinging axes shown on the back of the box art on all of the set boxes!!! that would have been awesome.

i feel like the whole thing was a missed opportunity. the voice actors seemed for the toa seemed to spell out every word in every sentence and the writing was cringy. to top it off the music editing was very unprofessional, sounded like something out of a fan film.

I think your complaint about the maze is just due to lack of time for a while season’s story. But yes you have a point there. I would spoiler it how ever for those who haven’t seen the show.

"That is Umarak "

sigh

So me and @Calebmar12 are having a nice chat about this, and he said "do you think Umarak was mutated looks like the city:. So I reply, “Perhaps catacombs underneath the city?”. We like that idea, what do you people think?

dose this mean that the wave 2 story is about umarak the destroyer invade the the city from below it would explain ekimus upgrade.

It’s good to see you guys enjoying TJtO. I’ll be hyped all through my school day (and slightly worried about my math test).

The dialogue was a lot better than I expected. Sure it was cheesy, but I felt that it was realistic enough (not reading off a script) and almost human-like. Makes them more relatable. Even Kopaka can have some fun with his element! But the portrayal of Lewa was my favourite (sorry Eljay, this guy takes the cake =P)

My favourite moment: Pohatu: Look. Where? Lewa: Heheheh, the last place you’d think to look…(points at head) Right. Here.

I also love how Onua basically became Ketar’s babysitter for Pohatu

Some may not care, but the spanish dub is amazing and I’m happy with that

EDIT: I just don know about Tahu he sounds a little bit young there
