To quote a wise man, “The plot can be rubbish so long as you have the characters react in realistic ways.”

I have to go with those five (there’s no particular order).
- Engaging plot
- A mysterious atmosphere
- Good descriptions, that make you feel like you’re in that place/you’re looking at that character/object for real. (So basically good imagery)
- Characters that don’t feel “exaggerated” in their personality
- Nice cover for the book, with a picture/drawing that has something to do with the story
If I have to choose only one of them… point 2 or 3 probably.
