Here is my self-MOC! Thanks to the fine folks at How to MOC tutorials for helping me build it along the way.
Here is the RedPandalorian! This model is 100% buildable. Note that the Rahkshi shins are supposed to be Ignika shins, and the green Nuva torso appeared in green as a late prototype. The zipline piece at the neck is supposed to be wrapped around his neck as greebling, but, as you can imagine, I couldn’t do that in Stud.io.
For a first self-MOC it’s not too shabby! Very unique design, that tail is certainly a fun feature.
In future versions, you might wanna widen the shoulders a bit, to give the torso a little more shaping so it’s not just a straight up-and-down block. If you intend to build this IRL, might wanna check how posable all of the limbs are too.
I tried to give his torso better shaping, but it was a failure, so I kept this design. I’m okay with the shoulders because I made them lower on purpose to make him look sleeker.
The articulation is actually pretty decent in real life. The hips are as limited as you average Marvel Legends, so they are not the best.
Here is an image of the model I used to test articulation.
There is a lot of colors in this moc. Red, orange, blue, green, dark green, dark grey, light grey, tan, either dark brown or black (stud.io’s rendering system doesn’t do a very good job), translucent blue, translucent light blue, and white. That’s, to put it frankly, an obscene amount of colors to keep track of.
My self-moc (buried in the forum’s past at this point) has exactly three colors. Granted, mine was doing a lot less than yours was in terms of things going on, but it was very easy for people to draw it or rebuild it in their own style because of its visual simplicity - different from the complexity of the build.
For the next version of your self-moc, try to narrow that palette down to the primary color (what the majority of the design will be) and the secondary color. Take a peek at Tahu:
Red primary, orange secondary. Black and grey appear as supplementary colors for small details. Even if you erase all the greebled bits and the special pieces, those familiar with Tahu-
Also, for your own personal purposes, it might help to figure out what “The RedPandalorian” is, exactly. A Toa? A human from Star Wars? A non-Bionicle character represented in LEGO form? An incomplete fursona? A Pedro Pascal lawsuit waiting to happen? The choice is yours.
The different shades of blue and green are compromises made to make the MOC buildable in real life. The red is only for the heart light and eyes. The brown is because of the stopper axels, so there is nothing I can do about that while keeping the model buildable. The shades of trans blues are compromises as well. The tail and ears being completely different from the rest of the body are done on purpose to highlight that the RedPandalorian is part Matoran/Toa (it is undecided which one he is) and part red panda. The strange clash of Bionicle and red panda is a long story, but in short, I came up with this persona in my childhood, and despite being weird, it has stood with me for all these years.
To wrap up, the strange shades of similar colors are done as compromises (that I hope will be fixed in future iterations of the RedPandalorian) and the completely random clash between Bionicle and red panda is because it is the result of a younger me’s creative and weird mind.
That is primarily a result of the way you built the moc. Future versions will undoubtedly improve this with each successive iteration of the design.
Not to rag on you about this particular, but it being buildable as justification for the color mismatching is not a very strong argument. Were it due to a limited parts palette, I could understand; Bionicle is quite expensive these days.
Keep at it. Whether digital or physical, the more you build the better you get.
I read your reply right before bedtime and fell asleep quickly after. Because of your ingenious timing, I had the most detailed LEGO dream ever. It was like a Vakama-style vision, so I have the exact blueprints of RedPandalorian 2.0 in my head (and the design fixes the coloration issues). I will be posting RedPandalorian 2.0 soon!
EDIT: Okay, it has been an hour and this is what I cooked up.
I took advice from @Minethuselah and you, @Ghid to make RedPandalorian 2.0. Note that the Rahkshi shins are supposes to be Ignika shins, and that the zipline piece sticking out like that is supposed to be wrapped around the neck as greebling, but as you can imagine, I wasn’t able to do that in Stud.io.
What do you think about this 2.0 version? I took notes from Takanuva and Gali by making the mask match the Nuva armor and by making the mask a translucent shade of a color present in the color scheme. I also simplified the main color scheme to be prominently blue and dark green.
