Revived Bionicle (and general Lego) Parts

Lewa Mata/Kopaka Mata left arm used in Krika set
Nuva shoulder pads used in Tahu Stars and Takanuva stars
Hordika legs used on Vastus
Hewkii’s climbing chain used in both of Umarak’s forms

I wouldn’t really say this was a “revived” part, from its introduction until Umarak it was seen every single year except 2008, 2010 and 2011

The first three and the Zamor launcher parts are good choices but some of these were never discontinued to begin with. The shadow Matoran foot and Glatorian neck in particular had appeared every single year even past the sets you mentioned.

Personally I’d have to go with the 2008 double socket joints, both the long and short versions. Even after the introduction of CCBS they somehow still kept showing up for another two years as necks on most of Ninjago’s earlier dragons. Often ended up looking really weird juxtaposed with the modern sockets used for their legs. I suppose the short one had appeared consistently every year until 2012, but the longer one was legitimately out of production after CCBS until randomly reappearing as the Ultra Dragon’s neck

The point about the sockets reminds me of the Glatorian heads that were reintroduced for Hero Factory Breakout. They probably don’t count as a revived part - last seen in 2010 (HF rookies), reintroduced in 2012 - but the situation with the sockets is odd. The Glatorian heads in 2012 still had the original, 2008 socket design. What’s weird though is that the shadow matoran claw foot actually got a new mold with the stronger CCBS socket. This foot was only used in a single set (Toxic Reapa), while the Glatorian head was used far more often. What makes it even weirder is that the year before, Waspix still used the shadow matoran claw with the original socket design. Why didn’t they remold the sockets on the Glatorian heads?

Edit: nevermind, Fire Lord in 2011 also has the Glatorian head. My point still stands, though.

And weirder still, that change was made partway through his production. Toxic Reapas from the first half of the year still have the old feet, and it’s how he’s depicted in his render

I got the guy sealed and he had the old feet, and I’ve never come across any new ones in bulk lots either, even when said lots contained Toxic Reapa

For the longest time I legitimately thought the redesigned feet never actually existed, but I’ve seen a few on eBay recently

Huh, I didn’t know that, that’s really strange. Are the claws just more prone to breaking compared to the heads? Most of my Glatorian heads have hairline cracks but are still fine, whereas a bunch of other parts with the 2008 socket have started disintegrating, although I guess that’s just a coincidence.

If anything the heads break easier since they’re translucent

Makes sense! Though I was already close to believing that the transparency actually made them more robust, for the reason I’ve said above but also looking at some bootlegs.
Sure, this isn’t a good comparison with Lego, but looking at Bela’s invincibility robots, most of the sets have been made with transparent sockets. These seem to hold up decently. However, they also made a bunch of sets with opaque sockets, and those are often in complete shambles and not good at all. They seem to have changed to the transparent sockets later on since some of Bela’s pre-2004 sets have opaque sockets, while 2006 and later sets are almost exclusively seen with transparent ones.
This is just pure stupid speculation on my part though, I’ve never owned any of these and I’m arguing purely by what I’ve seen on photos and videos.

Honestly I think it’s just to make them look cool

The official trans-orange and trans-medium blue double sockets break way more often than others in my experience

“Our goal is to keep as many bricks in play as possible”
What does that even mean?

They want to reuse old pieces, so they need the molds for it
Pretty sure they regret destroying them

That’s not what’s going on here. They have the molds on file, if they wanted them back they can remake the molds. If you look at the parts they’re accepting, it’s only Minifigs, Mini-Dolls, and basic bricks. They aren’t accepting Duplo, electrical parts or things with batteries, and other elements.

I need to look through and get some more solid confirmation, but it could be related to their Lego Replay initiative. That’s the LEGO Group sustainability and donation platform to give a lot of Lego Bricks to charities/less fortunate people unable to afford Lego without manufacturing a ton of brand new bricks. Do recall the that ‘reuse’ is an important step in recycling and for PR reasons, it’s better for people to send in their old unused bricks with the goal of giving it to less fortunate kids.

That program, however, might not be getting as many donations as they were hoping. So this “cash” incentive might be to encourage more people to send them unused bricks. The other alternative could be seeing how old parts hold up, or both, but my bet is it being part of the charity and sustainability plan.
