Samurai-esque Protector

Alright, this moc I actually have intact; so please leave suggestions on how to improve this one. Butcher it if possible, please. I’m fine with it being torn apart for sake of critique, we are living in a time where it is really easy to do so, and should be taken advantage of.

Just no scores. Please.

The Mocs mostly inspired by samurais, particularly more lightly armoured ones, though I wanted to see how I could use the cool protector masks.

Anyways, here we go:

Sawhry for spamming the whole messageboards… :frowning:

I’m Sorry Blaiz, but I just gotta.

Praise/Criticism:

  • Color Scheme is pretty consistent
  • The torso design is OK
  • The Greebling in the arms looks pretty bad
  • Open sockets in the middle look bad
  • The asymmetrical leg armor is meh
  • Don’t really get the samurai inspiration (Maybe the staff?)

I would give this MOC an overall rating of a 5/10.
It doesn’t look bad, but it does have its faults.

Needs Some Work

HERESY! BURN IN THE PITS OF (Bionicle reference)

Fair enough, was mostly focused on it.

You caught red handed, you found my laziness of using the normal protector and torso build!

In all seriousness, I could easily cover up the open sockets, so that’s taken care of. With the arms, well, what would you suggest? I was trying to get the samurai "shoulder armour** look in that area, and I’m not sure of many other ways to execute it.

I’m going to work on a custom torso, and try to get the rest of it to follow through. Maybe I could change the ‘robes’ up a slight more.

Don’t really get the samurai inspiration

I saw the greeble pieces used for the arms and the protector mask, and tried to see what I could so with it.

Now that I’m thinking of it, I could get technic axles attached to balls attached to the empty ball joint for more greebles. woah!

You could try creating a custom torso that would allow you to have one of these over the shoulders:

It would cover up the top of the Chainmail armor, making it look smooth. :sunglasses:

There were robes… I would try to make the Skirted Bottoms a bit more apparent

What… Why more Greeblez?

I never thought of that piece, sounds nice, though I’d have to incorporate a slight more of that colour too to balance it.

I see, maybe some add-ons or something would make them stand out a bit more. At the moment, they look almost like an extension of its’ leg.

What… Why not more Greeblez?!

ftfy. But in all seriousness, for the sake of patching armour around the place a bit more.

Trial and error, y’know the deal.

Don’t worry, it comes in Black.

Yes, I know the deal or do I?

I can’t really judge it until I get better pictures, and I’m too lazy to look closer. Also, you used the same picture twice.

@Maethorneth could probably say something about how Samurai-esque this looks, if he were active. Anyway. The only things I have to say right now are that I wish it had a more interesting color scheme.

The resemblance to a samurai isn’t very well done. I can see it if I think about it, but it should still be more strongly emphasized.

I don’t really have a full on gopro/tripod/whatever, too lazy to edit the second picture out.

@Hawkflight Thinking more dark gunmetal, since I don’t have a certain armour piece in black (and can’t be bothered buying it)

@Sciencegiraffe Fair enough, though if I hadn’t mentioned that it was supposed to be samurai-like; what would you think it would be? Just curious.

I am an idiot. Apologies.

Don’t say that. We all make mistakes from time to time. I’m just here to make sure everything is nice and organized.

Forgiven, of course. Many new members make the mistake of double posting, so it’s nothing to get worked up about. Carry on!

I heard the Call of Ktulu— I mean, my people.

I’m sorry, you seem to have uploaded the wrong creation? I don’t see any samurai here…

=P seriously though, if he is supposed to be a samurai, he needs to look more like one. Skirt armor is a must, the shoulder technique could work, however cover with a smooth piece, as was suggested before. He needs more color as well. I suggest more purple, and maybe some yellow highlights.

I’m going to work on some more trams purple around the place, along with the gunmetal and black. I’d go with yellow but would probably end up looking messy.

Need to get them haikates working…

@Chronicler Ah but it takes a bit less than common sense to read the rules!

Point taken though, the more you know

I think its a pretty good protector sized MOC, the custom arms and body are nice (Blue pin needs switching to black) but other than that there is not too much to denote this as a Samurai other than the weapon and posing… Might suggest doing something to add more of a samurai feel to the character.

I had actually just “remade” the moc now, but then I got carried away and made it a lot bigger, and added lots of translucent colours to it. It barely looks anything like a samurai now. I’m posting it soon enough once I bother to take photos of it.
