I first created my Bionicle self-moc, Natale Mortalis, in 2015. As my moccing skills have evolved over the years, so too have I made changes to this moc. You might recall that I actually posted about this character on this very website a few years back, but suffice to say that post is now severely outdated. I think it’s finally time for her redebut.
Natale Mortalis
Designing her started, as always with my self-moc, with the mask. The original wore a Kraahkan, so this version had to follow suit; so I decided that I wanted to flex my pearl gold one which I had acquired back in 2019 (not a replica, an authentic one!) that’s been waiting for its time in the sun ever since.
After that, the most difficult part of the model was designing the torso. I wanted to keep the same base as the original–these are meant to be the same person, after all–but I didn’t wanna use a Piraka foot as the chest plate. I wanted some gold on the chest so the black one was out, and I worried that the gold one would be too much. Some further part experimentation led me to using the Ben 10 tails to both connect her cape at the waist and provide some nice shaping going down the sides, and I think they look great.
Moving the cape down from her shoulders to her waist meant that the gearbox that once held her wings is now exposed, so I had to fill that in somehow. I covered up as much of the grey as I could, and what little remains is thankfully almost entirely relegated to this area.
As for lore, I don’t have much of it at the moment. I showed Natale to some friends a few months before I debuted her here, and some of them have said she gives evil queen so I kinda wanna build off of that.
Even taking into account the titan-size ccbs torso and the SW blaster pieces used for her legs, Natale ended up being much taller than I anticipated, coming in at about 10.5”/27 cm tall.
