Of all the things to be complicated, I think life itself is the one that makes the most sense.
Things would be pretty boring if living things were all the same.
The simple answers fail to stand up to facts. Define “do something to survive”.
A virus actively is trying to reproduce

Yeah but that’s the problem, it’s not actively trying to do anything.
Viruses have the passive property that everything they touch produce more viruses. They just float around and couldn’t stop infecting even if they could “want” to do so.

So do plants, they don’t actively do anything, they don’t have thoughts but they are considered alive. Plants just grow and reproduce and they cant stop it

Plants actively do a lot of things. They might look like they’re holding still but there’s a whole bunch of activity beneath the surface.
They are constantly moving around salt, water and other resources, managing their day/night cycle, opening and closing their blinds to let in just enough light to keep working without overheating and losing a bunch of water and adapt to their environment in other aspects as well.

I changed schools, first I chose applied sciences (basically you have programming instead of latin, you do chemistry the first year and you also do phisycs) that did not end well (failed every possible subject that had something to do with science and math) … so i chose to start again and now I do art. Remember kids listen to your fathers and never give them a giant “I told you so” opportunity like I did

another interesting thought I just had was if viruses were considered alive by the general populous, what Domain or Kingdom would they be placed in?
They’d probably get their own.
