Tempest - RP Topic

Kay watched the figure move towards him and heard a monotone voice coming from the direction of its face, despite the stoic, statue-esque features themselves not appearing to move at all. It all made sense to him all of a sudden.

“That’s it!” He practically jumped out of bed and turned on the light. “Ha. Ha. Very freaking funny. How the hell did you get into my house, you creep?!”

How did he not figure this out earlier? They obviously added something into the apple cider, which is why he didn’t remember coming back home, forgot to lock the door and fell asleep in his clothes, without even removing his shoes or toolbelt. And this unhinged stalker from the meeting, probably the one who messed with the cider, followed him all the way here to play a funny little joke on him. But some body paint, a piece of cloth and a cheep Halloween mask weren’t going to fool him.

Although, I don’t remember anyone from the meeting being so tall and muscular. And the costume looks way too convincing. Is she a professional cosplayer or something? Why go through the trouble of setting all of this up just to make fun of some guy from the outskirts of town?

Anyways I need to remove this weirdo from the house before old man wakes up and gets the gun.

“Come with me. You’re leaving NOW!

He attempted to grab the figure by the wrist with the intention to lead it out of the house…

…and immediately jumped back in shock. The figure’s skin was cold to the touch and completely stiff and smooth. Almost like- no, just like actual marble.

“Well. I guess I’m just from ‘out of town’ then… whatever *that* means.” Zenn seemed to be satisfied with this conclusion. A slight confident smile appeared on her face.

“Excuse you! I won’t be falling asleep any time soon, not after you scared the daylight out of me with that scream of yours!” She says in a mock offended voice. “But everything here being so boring doesn’t help the situation. I bet I’ll snooze again if I don’t find something to do.” She looks around the room again, desperately looking for something remotely fun.

Something to do… a purpose… everything in the world has one. What in the world is mine?

She is too enthralled with her thoughts to notice Cody’s worried look at the door.

The child raised an eyebrow, “A rock, what an interesting request, and why would someone so blessed wish for something such as a rock?” She asked with the tone of someone not seeking to understand, but simply wishing for biases to be confirmed.

At the mention of coppers, the child smiled and chuckled, “Ah, well in that I will not complain, if you wish to do so, that is your choice not mine.”

“Defender? Defend what?” Kip barked, sitting with head cocked to one side. Stuff like this normally didn’t make noises. But it wasn’t really making a noise was it, it more just made him understand.

“And how can you understand Kip?”

The gall of this creature. Bring her to this place, mock her, and then accuse her. Ozymandia slowly approached the startled Kay before quickly snapping out her hand to grab his wrist.

I said, where am I?” Her stone grip tightened.

She took a step back as fear became plastered across her visage. Taking a deep breath, she nodded seemingly realizing what was in front of her. For a minute it seemed like her throat would not cooperate in producing words.

After a couple minutes of silence she coughed out, “Y-yes, I can.”

Hacktop is able to calm down his frantic breathing, if only by a small amount. “Food… yes yes I remember seeing… that object class on those ‘almonds.’ I didn’t look fully into it…I never…” he manages to get out.

He takes in one massive breath and slowly lets it out, ending his hyperventilating. “So, from what I understand, all that I have been told by my manager is too look after you and make sure that you don’t break. It seemed liked a normal job. I can fix most programs and applications that I have encountered.”

“But!” he lets out in a angry voice, “for some reason, he thinks that most complex thing that I have ever seen in my entire life, by a WIDE margin, is somehow fixable if it ever breaks!”

Hacktop takes a small moment to calm down, “To actually answer your question, my access point is through this.” He reaches over and grabs a USB drive from the counter that Will hasn’t seen before. “Not sure why that in the case, but I have been keeping track of you through this.”

Henderson eyes down the chain, not quite sure what to think of it. After a moment’s hesitation, he takes it from Syn’s hands. Henderson fidgets with it, checking to make sure just how real the object that he is holding is. After its evaluation, he puts it around his neck and wears it like a neckless.

“Didn’t know you had a thing for rusted jewelry, but if that your thing then sure.” Henderson checks for wounds, finding some cuts and scratches and noticing that he is covered in the stench of oil that was too much for him to bear. “Well crap, now the room service is really going to have my head, spies or not. I’ll tell you want, I will go take a shower and change into something that doesn’t make me look like a hobo that just killed somebody, while you can go ahead and…uh… watch the news or something.” Henderson grabs a few spare cloths laying on the floor and does back to the bathroom, and starts to take a long overdue shower.

Kay tried to wrestle his wrist out of the creature’s cold grip, but the stone fingers didn’t budge.

it’s going to break my arm

“Tempest, Illinois, the United States… Earth!” He made another futile attempt to free his arm.

“What the hell are you?! How did you get into my house?!”

After ensuring that the stove was off and the house wouldn’t burn down, Styx tried to call the cops and dialed 911.

“Well I’m calling. They’re going to take you back to…wherever you came from.”

“The universe must be defended. I am protecting this sector. And now, you as well.”

In sudden motion, the rectangle makes landfall. Despite the jerky movement, it was slow enough to not make much noise from hitting the ground. It does make sure to do so when none of Kip’s paw could be crushed.

“I must defend you. Therefore, I understand you. Any other answer is unknown and irrelevant.”

“How can they take me somewhere when neither of us know where that place is?” she said coyly sipping her cocoa again, “I have had many cases where people called the coppers, but they always arrived too late, it’s a real shame when the happens.”

She slid onto a chair and shrugged, “But I suppose this is no emergency so we should not worry.”

After a moment of his struggling, Ozymandia released Kay’s wrist. Answers, it would seem, would be harder to come by than Ozymandia would have hoped.

So…you are not responsible for bringing me…here?

The more Ozymandia thought, the more she realized she didn’t know what was going on. This man likely knew as little as she did.

Would I be wasting my time by asking if you knew who was responsible for…this?” Her voice a mix of resignation and annoyance.

“Protecting sector…protecting sector…oh! You mean like I protect Mr. O’Marrec’s farm!” He barked, rising to his feet, tail wagging.

The wagging slowed. “Well, protected. I don’t really see Mr. O’Marrec anymore. In fact, I was kinda looking for a new master myself…hey! Maybe we could look for a new master together!” The wagging resumed.

“If that is your desire, then I will ensure you are safe while doing so.”

With the similar jerky movement, it springs back off the ground. Though it is floating a foot or two higher this time.

“Where do you wish to search first?”

The opposite end of the line crackled for a moment.

“Tempest Emergency Response.” The voice was a woman’s, at least 40 and very tired-sounding. More crackling proceeded.

Styx eyes narrow at the girl and then sticks her tongue out at her, shaking her head as the call was picked up.

“Hey. Calling to report…a missing person? Unidentified person? There’s some strange kid in my house. They were sitting by my bed when I woke up, don’t know who they are, but they aren’t anyone from around here.” Despite her confidence from just before, her response was nervous.

“What? Ma’am, please speak up, we’ve dealt with enough prank calls recently.” The voice groaned.

Unfortunately, Styx never got the opportunity to clarify. The line crackled sharply before dropping into a deafening silence, as if the absence of sound was in itself a sound. Another voice picked up, but it echoed, as if someone was speaking inside a massive, empty room.

“Are you kidding me?! You called THE COPS on her???”

Will stares at Hacktop in complete silence for a long, long time. He blinks slowly, he pokes and then pinches his cheek and roughly slaps himself across the face.
He closes and opens his eyes and prays the insane computer man will be gone when he does. He is, once again, gravely disappointed.
“So you…you fix things? You fix programs. And your…boss sent you to help…me.”

He reaches for the bag reflexively, then pulls his hand away and rubs his temples. “And you…you can track me with a USB. Great. Cool. Makes sense.”
“This is the longest drug trip I’ve ever been on man,” he groans. “And I’ve only dropped acid once-”

He lets out another groan and slouches out of bed, ambling over to the bedside table and shuffling through some of the drawers. “Where’d I…where’d I leave those rotten things…where…”

Horizons stands still for a moment, eye rolling furiously in its socket as it parses several new developments at once. The words its created vanish as abruptly as they appeared. The eye spins and spins and spins.

Then it stops spinning, and gazes at the strange biped. Whatever emotions it feels cannot be conveyed through the gaze; the eye looks like a camera, and the knight is as still as a statue.

The words “Where are we?” write themselves across Horizons’ chest. They repeat again and again, each new sentence smaller than the previous one.

Pernille chuckled, “Looks like we will be getting visitors,” she slowly picked up a matchbox from the folds of her clothes and slid out a match, “I suspect, unless your house is located close, they’ll be here in ten or so minutes. Unless the coppers have quick horses…” she paused and nodded as if they just might.

She then looked up, “Why did you want a rock?”

Sarah took another step backwards, and then felt the cool metal of the van as she couldn’t back up anymore. She gave a gulp, “Earth,” she stated cleanly, “You’re on Earth…It’s a planet…”

Sometimes when I think back and write these, I do wonder how many signs I have to miss. Hey Death, hey strange phone dude, what up? How might I disappoint everyone day?

Styx thrusted her arm forward to get the phone away from her ear when it crackled that loud, even winced. She pulled it back once there was silence. When she hears nothing but the phone claims to still be on a call, she gave it a light shake. Then the other voice came.

She dropped the phone with a brief, gasping, “ah!” Scrambled to pick it up, but still heard the message. Was this even a voice she knew?

“Uh. I-uh. Um…”

She tried to swallow spit, but there was nothing except air to choke on.

“…Wh-who are you? And what do you mean? Why wouldn’t I call cops on a–who are you again? You know what? I’m going to start recording this…”

Styx gives her a brief look to give acknowledgement that the words were heard, but says nothing. She looks away, putting up her other hand to cover the open ear.

How would she be recording this if she can’t use both hands?” The voice hissed. “A what? Y’know what never mind, that sounds boring. That means shut up; I’m in a ‘phone call’ and you’re bothering me.

“So apparently you don’t understand how nondescript information delivery by way of notes works.” The voice grumbled. “Why wouldn’t you call the cops on a Revenant? Oh GEE, I DON’T KNOW!! Maybe because if you used that mush you call a skull cap you’d realize you chose the delinquent deliberately, you sad excuse of a college-dodging…”

WHAT?!” The whisper was more like a scream. “Oh. Oh crap. I didn’t anticipate this. Uhh, look I’ve got to go, people are getting suspi- WELL MAYBE BECAUSE I WASN"T SPECIFICALLY LOOKING, YOU NINCOMPOOP!!” There was a short pause. “Just get to the dag blasted forest before I have to FLY OVER and- Alright, ALRIGHT! GOODBYE!!”

“…AlsotellPernilleIsaidhiokaybye.” The call abruptly ended.

Striding Supervening Horizons stands still. There is the sound of countless things skittering, moving, thrashing against each other as tiny sensors crawl out of its armor and taste the air, catalogue the sounds blowing past, record and memorize minute details of the ever-shifting world outside their metallic shell. The knight inclines its head in a short nod.

Its eye darts to the van and then toward her. Another sentence writes itself through the air, a few inches to the left of Horizons.

Earth. Why is earth? Why is this region of earth?

Another appears beside it.

Why are you?

And the eye blinks slowly as the tendrils reverse course; from reaching all ways outward, from pointing in every direction-
-to pointing in hers.

Horizons raises a hand. It reaches slowly toward her, the same sentence patterns across the limb over and over and over.

Why are you? Why are you? Why are you? Why are you? Why are you?

“Well then, if you dont mind, Im going to go make myself some breakfast. Not sure if my parents should see you, but if nobodys here I guess you could come and see. Do you eat normal food, or do you not know that either?”

When the voice mentioned that she isn’t using both hands, Styx looked around the room trying to figure out how they knew. Before she could even ask, the other person continued on their rant. This wasn’t a whiplash, this was a full on whipping. And like getting yelled at by Dad, it hurt her head.

Once the call ended, Styx stood there motionless for a few seconds. Prying the phone away from her ear, she shoved it back in her pocket and then collapsed face first on the nearest couch. Before Little Miss Death can say anything, a not so muffled roar emanated from Styx.

Rrrraaaaahhhh!

She violently twisted herself so that her back is on the couch, throwing fists into the air.

“FINE! We’re leaving!” She screeched.

Sliding off the couch, Styx stomped back up stairs to get her bag and stuffed it with the essentials. The stairs gave angrier replies as she ran back down. Provided the little girl wasn’t already out of the chair, Styx grabs it with intent to topple it.

“Move. We’re going to the woods now, for some stupid reason. And Mom has the car…uhg!”
