The eBooks vs Hardcopy Topic

As there was a conversation about this in the latest podcast, I would like to start a discussion on this. Hopefully this topic can last more than 3 days (I’ll get to that later!)

As stated on the Podcast, it depends on the book. If it is more of a collector’s piece, buy a physical copy. If it is more of a pick-up-and-read thing, then buy the more compact eBook.

Physical.
There is this satisfying feeling when you are close to ending a book and hold only a slim amount of pages left in your right hand, getting even smaller as you flip.

There is something far more connecting and satisfying about Hardcopy books.

On the other hand, I suppose I’m not doing the trees any favours.

Hardcopy- I love the feeling of slamming a book shut when I’m done, it makes me feel as though I’ve accomplished something.

Preference: Hard Copy
But as a realist, and someone who doesn’t want to spend an unnecessary amount of money, I will buy ebooks.
The question to ask is mainly this: Is this a book I’m going to want to read frequently?
If no, chances are ebooks are a good idea. It’s cheaper and since you’re probably going to read it only once, that’s the best root.
But if it’s a book you love, get it in hard copy. Now, having it backed up in ebook mode is a good idea too if you’re worried about your house burning down or something. But there’s something about reading a book as a book. And if you’re like me and want to take notes in it (I’ve only begun to do this as I have to do a lot of book analyzing for college) then hard copy is essential.

That was a lengthy and unnecessarily long way to say “Get what fits the situation best.”

I always want a physical copy (hard copy). I don’t trust anything digital or electronic when it comes to this stuff.

I only have hard copies, I dunno, I like the new book smell…

Short answer; whichever is easier.
I’m in the position where it’s not easy to find physical copies of books, so buying a potentially cheaper ebook for the kindle is ideal.

But I still consider buying physical books just the normal thing to do.

even though everyone’s basically already said it, it depends on what’s easier at the moment, for example it was easier to get Island of Lost Masks and Halo glasslands digitally because they were expensive in the store

I don’t like it when my books battery dies.

Personally I prefer physical copies because I get more satisfaction out of it (as weird as it may sound) and I have a collection to look out. I’m not opposed to e-books though, although I haven’t bought any as of yet.

For me, this is the same case as Music. I myself really, really like having physical copies of albums, but if I can’t get it anywhere (For example, it’s no longer available or is only available on vinyl) I will get a digital copy. Books are the same way for me.

Paper you can always read.

With an ebook the battery can die, or there could be an EMP. (Don’t ask me how, just accept that paper doesn’t have that weakness.)

true, but it still can fall to fire.

Then you get the enjoyment of it burning.

BTW, I wouldn’t suggest putting an e-reader in the fire either.

Ebola for torrents, paper for more so novels, mthough library is usually preferred.

Paper 4 lyfe.

Hardcopy for actually bought books.
eBooks for “free” books.
