The Great Ascent - Signups and OOC [RP Closed]

Yeah, sorry about that Oisli. I’m going to take a break from all RPs for now. I may come back after awhile - but for now I need to focus on my other projects.

Not the greatest post but it has been an unusually busy week…I say like that probably won’t continue until January.

My apolocheese for my unexistence, I have been swamped with work recently and will seriously need to request fewer hours so I can come home and not immediately wipe out :pensive:

I’m thinking I may require an extra step from all those still in the rp - I’m not too concerned with whether or not a set amount of ammo is being used, but I will care about whether or not you reload. If your character has a firearm which does not list an exact amount of ammunition in the signups, please cite me how much ammunition it uses in one clip/magazine/however the ammo is fed/if it is fed at all. (citation would be nice as these are all real weapons here)

I’ll be using it to make sure people have some restriction on whether or not they can blast away, so make sure you count your shots in the rp and take a full post to reload when the time comes.

Michael’s rifle has a top-loading clip holding 5 rounds of .30-06.

Sorry for not engaging much, just limited things to do until we get rolling.

Not a problem. We’re nearing end of year and holidays, things are stepping up everywhere. On a different note.

I was wondering if I should have preemptively clarified with at least a Wikipedia link.

I still imagine the answer would be there aren’t any, but these are a thing.

Though for some fun factoids, your choice of locomotive wouldn’t see use in Canada for at least a decade after this game’s rough timeline. That’s also true for most of the US as well since that design was still being worked out for viable use. Especially out in the cold. I know why the train’s name was chosen, and thus likely the engine type as well. And it’s not too much of a stretch to push some of the tech and adoption along, this is alt-history after all. And I imagine the narrative impact/changes would be minimal as well, so handwave. But if my railway-based Mini-Cons didn’t give it away, I do know at least a little bit about rail transport.

Might’ve helped, as it’s not unlikely they’d be present in an area prone to extreme weather. I’ll amend my post in a little bit.

I chose it for its diesel, the development period fitting into my timeline, and the recency of its creation. Exact period of usage I could fudge a little given the setting, but I needed a train that fit the general specifications I was looking for without being so dated the fuel would become inaccessible in the Canadian north.

Probably more than me lol

But not enough for true train enthusiasts. I can’t identify what wheel bases are on which model or why those differences matter. Too much of an aesthetics casual.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Well, I suppose this was inevitable.

Seeing as one player has only posted once and two others have abandoned the RP entirely, I’m gonna call this a wash. It was a nice experiment, I suppose.

We really need to get past the openings on these.

While I wasn’t ever a part of this one, I’m curious, did you have any interesting plans in store Ghid?

I had some loose plans, but it’s always a good idea to keep whatever plans for the RP you have as a GM as flexible as possible to account for however the story may turn out. This isn’t roleplaying so much as it is a collaborative novel, with many authors writing from individual character perspectives and plotting their own course alongside the events of the story.

No matter what choice regarding the rails was made, the plan would ultimately backfire. The armored train, commanded by an unfortunately unintroduced Russian commander, would seize the town and kill Granny Nauda. It would be revealed that someone had deliberately tampered with the explosive, if one was used, to render it inert.

As the party traveled up the mountain, Sosruko’s sour attitude would grow considerably worse, and the train would be forced to drop off carriages to lighten the load and slow the oncoming train. Three different depot stations were set along the railway to the peak, where more diesel was stored and could be procured by the party if the circumstances permitted it. During at least one of these stops, the armored train would catch up and wreak havoc.

After a number of suspicious sabotages to both the train and their progress, it would be revealed that Tesso, not Sosruko, had ruined the explosive and tampered with things during the climb, due to his intense hatred for the U.S. invasion of his home and his feelings towards the Canadian resurgence. Finally reaching the peak, those who remain would use the radio array to warn the rest of the U.S. about the impending invasion, just before the armored train arrived. The peak, which had been rigged by Mulder years ago, detonates, and the entire party closes the rp in one final challenge to survive, inside the decimated train, the tumultuous fall back to camp.

It’s a bit sad that it never got to play out, but at least it was given a chance. I’m thankful for all of you that decided to sign up, even though it never went anywhere.
