The Mystical Emerald-Man (Comic Book)

Why on earth are you making me choose you monster

Obviously I want to continue with the Emerald Man journey, but I am a fan of diversified story worlds and would really love to see Blue Moon come to life. I’m also confident that Emerald Man vol. 2 is an inevitability and I’ve gotten a good helping of him already, so I could tolerate a post season hiatus from him

I should mention that I also ran a poll on Twitter and they heavily favored Volume 2. So I just wanted to see how people here felt too.

Can’t believe I’ve never commented here, but I just want to say that I’m really enjoying the series. It’s easily the best comic I’ve read in recent memory.

The themes present are very interesting to me, specifically the first few issues. They remind me of medieval/early Christian folk tales and literature, which fits well with the characters being from Britain at around that time.

I also like that, while the comic takes itself seriously, it still fits in humor quite well. Like, you can include issues #6-7 and the “big pharma” stuff while also including this:

It made me laugh out loud. I’m excited to see where it goes from here!

That little scene literally came last minute to me when I was storyboarding that issue. Just funny little things to add to a scene (and give a sense of how Fetch was running things).

Clearly a professional. Been at it for a few centuries, after all.

OK so responses majority are still Emerald-Man Volume 2 when accounting here and twitter. But it’s not by much! So here is what I’m gonna do: I plan to make a single issue of Blue Moon to see if it garners interest, after finishing volume 1. I need a break from Emerald-Man anyways in order to ensure volume 2 is gonna be solid.

In the meantime, enjoy the cover for the next issue. (Do not peak if you have not read issue 16 first!)

Some previews for next issue:

This is the finale for this volume. I am excited to be working on it. Should release probably in February?

Looks great! And I’m interested that Danu is now a physical person, instead of an apparition from the necklace.

OK I apparently was far too excited to release this one and worked on this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ahead of schedule. But, it’s ready.

The finale of Volume 1 is finished. This is the end of this part of the series. Thank you all for being devoted readers and giving me plenty of constructive criticism. I hope this was very much enjoyable.

Let me know your thoughts once more.

Well I’m working on my next project now: Blue Moon. I’m gonna be focusing more on making it feel like a vintage comic book.

This one will likely be a comic folks pay for a PDF or something on GlobalComix so watch out for that on my GlobalComix if you are following me there. (Cannot promote it here because I’m not a master.) Largely because of how much work I do on these, I do want to earn some money on it.

Note that this will be a one-off issue unless more interest is shown in it. I want to work on Volume 2 of Emerald-Man just as much.

Anyways what did folks think of this last issue? Overall thoughts on the series since this part is finished?

Spoiler town

Seeing Fetch go saddens me but all good villains must end :pensive: I Guess I never noticed before, but the ‘SWIPE’ and ‘STOMP’ on page six following the movement of Emerald-Man is a nice touch. Cool way to comvey the motion and sound together in a still frame

Adding Danu to the phyisical world gives her character a great opportunity to take on a new role and meaning, and I look forward to seeing what that is

And I’ll he waiting for Crom Cruach later :eyes:

Also the mayor looks nothing like Keith Wilson (I looked him up) :triumph:

I try to avoid using current day politicians just as a general rule. But also! This comic takes place in 2022 when Ted Wheeler was mayor! So… I win?

Thanks for the thoughts Wekua.

So I finished Blue Moon. I am not gonna make a topic for it, because while I have free preview pages, it is not entirely free to read. It’s here for any of those interested.

Which leads to something I wanted to discuss here. I have worked quite hard to keep my comics free, and also consistent, and also deliver good stories to you guys. My issue is, I did want to make money off of it. My donation model isn’t working as well as I had hoped.

Which has made me consider perhaps using a similar paywall model to this comic. It is a test. But while I enjoy readers, bills are getting harder to pay. I really don’t want to have Emerald-Man be something folks have to pay for. But I may need to do that though.

I want to know what you folks think. Will I lose readers here, and everywhere else, with that idea? Or is it a bad idea? If it is, I would remind and encourage folks it is a bit of labor to make these, and while I enjoy doing it? Eventually I may have to stop doing it in general to focus on getting another job. I would like to know what you folks think.

I think you have every right to earn back for an original work of your own making. I think you should go for it
