The New URL

The Boards are really quiet now…

I find this both good and bad…

Welp, images don’t work. Why’d the URL need a change, anyways? It’s just such an out-of-the-blue occurrence.

Because of the way we had the old URL set up, members were being linked to incorrect IP addresses which caused multiple accounts to share the same IP.

When someone broke the rules and was banned/suspended, a completely different user (or in some case multiple users) who were unrelated and did nothing wrong were also banned by mistake, as the boards detected a shared IP and automatically assumed that the other users were duplicate accounts.

This also caused many other issues behind the scenes in regards to moderation.

We initially set this up back in 2014 when our boards were hit with a DDoS attack. This extra level of protection stopped large scale traffic from being driven to our website and causing downtime. We have since outsourced the maintenance of our server to a service provider rather than try to do it ourselves and no longer need the extra level or protection that we had prior. This was something that should have been changed awhile ago and we’re only just now getting to it.

While we’re making these changes to ttvpodcast.com we have set up a redirect to ttvchannel.com so that you can still use this website. However, since we’ve had to change the URL to accommodate this fix we might as well keep it like this since it makes more sense with our current branding anyway.

Links and images will be hit or miss temporarily while the changes take effect.

I find it funny that the site logo only seems to be broken whenever I go to this page.

So when I quote a topic and post it in anouther topic, it tries to direct it to board.ttvpodcast.com, Is there anyway to fix it?
(I have fix to use that kind of works, but just once)

All Invader Zim gifs are appreciated.

Yeah, I couldn’t access the forums before now.

Ah, so that’s what’s going on.

Guys, I’ve found a solution to this issue: quote the post. You can see the images from there.

Oh, I’ve been doing something else

I question if a new URL was really worth all the problems this has created…

New URLs are cool and all, but they aren’t exactly critical…

Hmm.

Interesting.

Alright, I can see why it was done.

That works about 31.5% of the time for me.

That’s an awfully specific percentage.

Odd. It works 98.66835% of the time, although that might be because I’m using desktop view on mobile.

Var did mention on the Podcast a long time ago that the URL was going to be changed, but yeah, it’s a bit odd that there wasn’t at least a “Yo, new URL tomorrow” or something.

The boards didn’t work for a whole day for me.
does it have anything to do with this?

Well, to be honest I underestimated how long it would actually take to roll out to everyone. I was hoping it would be a seamless transition :stuck_out_tongue:

They were never down. The URL just didn’t work. You could have accessed the boards by typing: board.ttvchannel.com

All images and links should now be working again. If they are still not showing up then clearing your browsers cache should resolve the issue. If not, then give it a few more hours and they should begin to appear over the course of the rest of the day.

I also thought that the boards were down. As others have said, there was no announcement anywhere for it, so we had no idea that the URL had changed and we thought that maintenance was happening.

If something like this change happens again, it would be nice if there was an announcement on the boards before the change and/or on the channel and/or the website after the change

I would recommend following our social media accounts, in particular our twitter.

In the instance that the site goes down for any reason, be it malicious or otherwise, that is where you’re going to find out what’s going on. In this case I did in fact make an announcement on my twitter.

Though, as I stated previously, I was not aware that it would take this long to roll out to all accounts. For some people, the change was instantaneous, where as others are still waiting. That was a mistake on my part and had I known that would be the case then an announcement would have been made ahead of time.

However, it’s unrealistic to expect advanced notice for every downtime, as it’s simply impossible to predict every time a downtime will happen and how long it will take to resolve it. But, in the instance that we are aware that there will be an extended downtime then a formal announcement will be made.

Oh, and it may seem like sort of an afterthought, but I am genuinely sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused. I had to spend the whole morning helping people recover lost passwords cause the links weren’t working and I’m sure that was quite the headache for everyone involved :disappointed:
