The Old Story: A G3 Short Story

THE OLD STORY
As told by Turaga Vakama, transcribed by Takua, Chronicler
In the time before time, there were two brothers; one, the strong, resolute Mata Nui, the other, the ambitious, cunning Makuta. They are who created this beautiful island and all its inhabitants.
Mata Nui, the more precise of the two, sculpted the island from the wet clay of the water, forming it’s mountains, volcanoes and canyons, each carefully added with skill. Makuta, the more artistic of the two, painted onto the island all of the trees and foliage, the flowers in the fields, and the hanging vines of Le-Koro. It was a paradise.
Then, Mata Nui proposed that they create someone to populate the island. So, with a sculpters eye, Mata Nui created the Matoran people to live and enjoy the land. Makuta, with an abstract style, created the varying creatures and animals, the Rahi. For many long and plentiful years, Mata Nui and Makuta, the Matoran and the Rahi lived in perfect peace.
Until Makuta saw that the Matoran were carving up his beautiful trees and growth to build villages and machines. Makuta ignored it for some time, until he realized that the only growth left on the entire island was in the forests of Le-Koro. Makuta decided to create an enforcer to protect his art, just to empower several select Matoran to become a type of police. But in the creation of the enforcer, something unforeseeable went wrong, and Makuta did not realize it until his creation was loose on the land. The Kraata.
The Kraata attacked the selected Matoran and possessed them, making them stronger, but also despicably evil. The newly created Rahkshi wreaked havoc on the land, killing dozens of Matoran and Rahi. That was when Mata Nui intervened.
Calling on his own special Matoran, created the Toa Heroes to combat the Rahkshi - The Toa of Fire, the Toa of Stone, the Toa of Water, the Toa of Ice, eToa of Air, andd the Toa of Lightning. They combatted the Rahkshi and drove the Kraata from the island, freeing the Matoran under their control.
Makuta tried to fix his mistake, but was punished by Mata Nui, who banished him, in spirit form, to the most inexcapable caverns and mazes under Mata Nui. And there he lies in wait, planning his return to the surface.
We thank Mata Nui for saving us from the Rahkshi threat and creating us. That is why the island is named Mata Nui.
And this is the legend of the Bionicle.

It’s good, it has that nature is under attack so it rose up kinda vibe to it, which certainly explains the attacking Rahi and Rahkshi. It also sounds like an actual prophecy/piece of lore in some parts which you’ve done really well and you seperate Makuta and Mata Nui really well.

My only issue with this is that Makuta doesn’t feel like he is the same evil from the previous generations, his motivations for attacking the inhabitants of the islands seem smaller whereas G1 or G2 Makuta wanted to control everything. Perhaps if Makuta wanted to control all of the power of creation, the aspect of nature and the aspect of life and the only way to do this was to use the Matoran?

One of the reasons I really got into Bionicle, (~2008) was because of the lore in the story. This can become a lore based story with lots of room for fan fiction. Perhaps we even could have a novel branch geared toward the older fans as well as the new.
