I know this story! It is the one where the adventurer and slime become one being, but the mental trauma gives it autism!
Maybe they make vaccines out of these jello creatures!

We awake in a desert. My body is gone. I need to possess an object, but where?
There. A white mask, in the sand. That will do nicely.
The young villager is here too. He walks towards my new form.
I understand his language now. Our minds melded in the tunnel.
He says four words.
“Oh cool, a hat!”
He places me on his green gelatinous head.
We walk away into the desert, not knowing what we will find.
I observe with the Slime.
