Uniter Korgot & Tuskrag

And the G2 Marathon continues! This week, Earth begins!

And for those interested in entering in the marathon, you have one week left for Jungle

Inspired by the Toa, who have since left for the stars, the Protectors decided to find their own creatures to pair with. After getting some modifications from Ekimu, each found a critter blessed by one of the Element Creatures. And with the rising darkness from Skull Caster and other new foes, this partnership could not come at a better time.

Uniter Korgot & Tuskrag:

Apologies for the darker photos. They looked fine at their larger resolution, but I forgot to consider what happens when they’re shrunken down. The group photos are going to be against the white background, so they should be easier to make out there.

Uniter Korgot:

Designer’s Notes:

Korgot is the main reason I was debating these being the next gen of Protectors who were inspired by the Toa during their visit or the active ones. Because I knew no matter what direction I ended up going that this one would be the most significant change body-wise.

In an earlier concept phase, I wanted all the Protectors to take more elements from the Toa. Both in their armor and weaponry. There were two problems, however. One being that it would eliminate the unique aspects of the Protectors (Kivoda’s weapon) and the second issue being that the Toa Uniter’s gear takes a lot of influence from the Protectors. Not sure if that was on purpose because Ekimu reforged them stuff or a happy accident on the designer’s part. I ended up sticking closer to the Protectors original state, with Kivoda picking up some of Gali Uniter’s fashion and Korgot here taking more from Onua Master. I liked the rocks being on top more than on the arms.

The blaster can be made functional in two different ways, but I didn’t want to deal with that. I almost had it so she had the silver 2015 add-on for the chest to be more uniform with the rest of the Protectors and figure out a way to strap the blaster on top of that. But early experimentation eliminated that direction quickly.

I considered making the star drill more like Onua Uniter’s drill hammer and dropping the weird double-bladed knife, but went back to slightly larger versions of both in the end. And gave her a shoulder flashlight, since that would be useful underground.

Tuskrag:

A crystalline boar blessed by Terak, Tuskrag is an underground guardian for the Region of Earth. Sniffing out people trapped in collapsed tunnels for rescuing, nests of pests to wipe out, or evil traps like the one they warned Terak about, they are a lot softer and caring than their hard exterior lets on. Though if someone or something damage one of their favorite crystal growths, they might never live to see that side of them.

Designer’s Notes:

Of all the creatures I’ve made, this one is my favorite. This one, like a lot of the others, was originally made for Fire and used the trans-black crystals instead. But like Yukzem, not remembering that most of the trans-orange parts were used by the Sphere of Influence got it converted from a volcano tortoise to this crystal boar. That and purple looked a lot cooler.

United:

The most backpack of all the backpacks. And if Korgot’s legs were positioned a bit further back, probably couldn’t tell that this is two separate beings. Oh well.

As always, comments and criticism are welcomed.

I really like this one! Korgot looks very clean, and her combination with Tuskrag looks better to me than the other combinations, if only because it’s harder to make the two out when combined, and Tuskrag’s purpose as back armor is more clear than some of the others. The Beast jaws work surprisingly well with the crystal pieces on Tuskrag. Good work all around!

this is the best creature by far, and almost feels like a hypothetical 3rd year fever dream

Thanks! Though I do wonder if we’ll ever get concept art or details of what a third year would have been. Maybe if I’m ever in Denmark I’ll have to snoop around.

Tuskrag steals the show here. The crystal armor pieces framed by the beast jaws is just chef’s kiss.

@kawaii_kitten I have, though it has been several years. So from what I recall, none of it was any strong hints as to what a year three could have been.

@TheMOCingbird Thanks! Ever since I got my hands on those jaws, I’ve been trying to find something that worked well with them. But so many of my other attempts eliminated them as an option for one reason or another.

3rd one in particular.

None of them do to me, though that Pohatu we see in Journey to One. A lot of these are mood or inspiration boards that became stuff we saw in the first two years or early ideas that were dropped. That and I highly doubt the LEGO Group would have released concept art intended for a final wave of sets that never came to pass right at the end of G2. Unless they were pieces that ended up being used, to some extent, already in the released items.

It is rare to see the cancelled future years since they might be recycled later for another line. Like with some of the cancelled Nexo Knight sets later being reused in Ninjago once enough time passed.

Good design on that creature.
