What Grinds Your Gears?

People over complicating things, or trying to add nuance to something that’s a definitive

Sometimes my folks won’t say a word to me the entire time I’m in the same room as them, and the moment I move into the doorway to go do something somewhere else they start a conversation

That’s a gear grinder for me

People in general grind my gears

I’m actually done with people
I was talking with my friend and simply stated my opinion (after he had stated his opinion rudely and unsympathetically many times before) and he decides to called me an idiot, some other uncensored stuff and blocks me. After months of trying to talk to him via other friends and taking hours writing essays on how I’m sorry (even though I shouldn’t be) he says “he doesn’t want to associate with me.” He has been such a jerk to me, but when I state my opinion it seems as though I did something wrong. I guess I don’t even want him as a friend anymore

I’m sick of people, friends, and all of the above.
At least I have my cat

I’m sorry your friend lacks dynamic communication skills or the emotional fortitude to survive a dissenting opinion

Praise be to Citrus the Cat for out-performing human sapience

That is no friend who blocks you like that. I hope that anyone else who befriends you will be a better person, one who is not so intolerant of others’ opinions.

We don’t have any standing rules (to my knowledge) prohibiting the discussion of LGBTQ+ related subjects or topics.

I’m aware that LGBT related topics themselves are not against any rules. But saying People who think LGBT folk are “brainwashing the kids” is literally referencing things talked about constantly on the news and by politicians. Correct me if I’m wrong/the rules have changed in regards to this but it sounds shaky regarding what’s been previously established.

Yeah, but I imagine the rules are pretty one sided on this. The creation of an LGBT topic was something that I thought violated the rules, in the same way a topic on religion would, however it’s still up. I have a lot more I could say, but this probably isn’t the place to do it

You could say that this is something that grinds my gears… a lot.

On a different note…

People who argue that it’s too hard to use self-checkout produce menus, when they could just use a normal checkout lane with a cashier. As a retail employee, I find these to be some of the worst customers I’ve ever encountered.

It takes two to tango. Far as I can tell, Embeanie made a statement in-line with the topic which doesn’t violate any rules. The continuation of that statement by others (aka a discussion) is what would fly closer to breaking the rules, if that makes sense.

I get your point, but really, some people just need to let things be. We suffered a great deal during the contests because people had to respond to things and had to stir up arguments.

When Kahi was around, he did have us shut down a previously existing LGBTQ+ topic. He is no longer around. Discussion about that community, as well as members of our community looking to seek others that are LGBTQ+ is entirely allowed.

We don’t allow discussion about politics/religion because we have no faith (pun intended) that those would remain civil discourses. Political statements that spur arguments would also be subject to discipline. However, stating something like your religious beliefs is fine, in the same way stating you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community is fine.

It’s really a conversation about cause and effect. Hopefully this makes more sense, but if anyone wishes to continue this conversation privately, feel free to reach out to me and Meso.

People who think everything they say or do (or that someone else says or does) can be defended by saying “it’s a joke, bro, get over it”.

People who reply to any criticism of a show/movie/whatever with “quit complaining, you should just be happy you’re getting it at all.” No, that’s not how it works. You’re supposed to criticize, so the creator can improve.

Just throwing this out there, the lack of real criticism from most audiences annoys me a lot. Criticism is only good if it offers solutions. Otherwise, it really is complaining because the critic doesn’t say what was done right or how errors could be corrected.

The Star Wars community. Oh the frustration of enjoying The Mandalorian, and Book of Boba Fett, only to get roasted online for supposedly selling out to Disney… if the community put a similar amount of effort into actually acting like a community, any good Star Wars media would have a chance. Currently, any good ideas get shot down the instant they’re advertised…

And finally, the lack of good army building sets for any LEGO themes. I wish I could afford some Shoretroopers…

This is something I’ve experienced several times lately. When you’re interested in something on an online marketplace site and the seller either:

a) starts a normal conversation as if you could buy it, then just stops responding

or

b) doesn’t even respond at all.

Look, I can understand if the seller decides to keep the things, or if there was someone else interested before me. Just a simple “no, sorry” would be enough! But just leaving you hanging like that? That’s a bit rude if you ask me.

Even worse is when someone has a listing up, but it turns out that they listed the same item on multiple sites, and forgot to take down the duplicate listings when the item sold… happened to me once on eBay.
