In the Piraka Rap there are a few lines that have always confused me. Several times they reference “the street.” Example: “Piraka in the street, that’s a lot of heat.” What streets are they talking about?
This was always the parts of the Piraka Rap that made me laugh the most, because I kept thinking of the Piraka singing about a dirt road connecting a few shabby grass huts in Voya Nui as if it were a suburban neighborhood or a city district. Are they talking about Zakaz? Because it doesn’t sound like they’ve got much of a streets, either.
(I know the Piraka Rap isn’t canon. I’m just wondering hypothetically.)
2006 had a lot of gangsta materials in its marketing since it was popular at the time, along with the general edginess. Hence chain fences, the Piraka being in urban and factory environments, police lineups, etc. So wherever that factory they got built in could have streets or roads.
Though as for a potential lore friendly answer, they were involved in the Toa-Dark Hunter War. And Metru Nui certainly has streets, so that is the best candidate.
I’m pretty sure street just means general gang / rap stuff and isn’t referring to bionicle itself. That whole line of commercials had a rap / somewhat edgy “Cool” vibe. It was the teenage years of bionicle.
Zakaz definitely had streets. It was urban before the cities got levelled. So urban, in fact, that it looked exactly like Le-Metru.
The best visual representation of Voya Nui that we have, VNOG, had quite a few roads all over the island. You can see them on this map courtesy Cholie and Taun Taureo:
