What's with all the 2015 Pohatu hate?

Ok, so looking around the message boards and other bionicle sites, I’ve noticed a trend of everyone hating the 2015 Pohatu set. I want to ask the question: Why? I got him with all the other toa, and have found that he is quite well designed. I mean, yes, his build is basic, but not any more than Gali’s, which most people seem to enjoy. Could someone enlighten me on this? Yes, I realize he is the smallest set, but I feel he is very well covered with armor and well designed.

The thing is is that, like you said, he is not well armored. You see, people think his design is too simple, which is why they don’t like him.

I don’t have him yet, but I think the reason he gets so much hate is the piece count. It’s barely higher than a protector, and also it might be because of all the silver on him. I really have no clue though.

I actually said I felt he was quite adequately armored. He’s not as complex, but it is bulky enough to look good. I mean, they used a lot of pieces to make additional layers of it, which I liked. As I said, Gali’s armor is probably more basic, as it is literally just the armor pieces and not much else save for the shoulders.

I think Pohatu is pretty good. Obviously he is the simplest of the six toa. But simplicity isn’t all that bad. My only complaint for Pohatu is his asymmetric arms.

Personally, I don’t see much Pohatu hate, but I don’t go on shudders BZP at all. I like the set, it looks really cool in person, even if he’s really simple. I didn’t think the trans-green would look too good, but now that I see it, it looks fine.

Overall: A- good set.

Assymetry, Trans Green, random white spikes, and those weapons. That’s what I dislike about Pohatu.

Edit: boomerangs are really cool. I don’t like the weapons because they have a pin sticking out, that’s all.

But…those are some of the best parts!

He’s got some pretty good MoCing potential, but as a set, he’s a nightmare.

Asymmetrical color scheme only rivaled by a Jackson Pollack painting
Lime green pieces that fit in about as well as Ray Rice in a feminist support convention
Feet that look like they got dipped in a vat of silver
Boomerangs for weapons…for some reason…
Teeth growing out of his arm that makes me question whether he was infused with Phazon
The laziest secondary weapon in the entire group by far
Gear function only works with one arm for some reason

I actually think that the asymmetry of the armor is pretty cool, but the colors have me beyond confused. I’m fine with the trans-yellow, but I don’t understand why they just stuck it on one arm. There’s also WAY too much sliver.

Personally, I’m quite fond of him. I can see why one wouldn’t be, but I like him overall.

He’s one of my favorite sets. I mean, I understand why some people wouldn’t like him, but what makes Gali all that better? You don’t seem to see near as much hate for her.

His gappiness and overall simplicity are the main concerns I’ve seen with him. A friend on Twitter showed me a way to fix the gappiness, luckily. If anyone wants to see how, let me know and I’ll make a topic for it.

I’m intrigued. NOW MAKE IT A TOPIC!

Thank you for your cooperation.

Six shooter ni****? Is this guy trying to compete with blue pin ni****?

But seriously, Pohatu is a great set. So what if he is the most simple? He still looks good. I for one really like the ‘brown’ and silver combo.

People dont like him because he is “simple”

I personally love him, and he is my second favourite set of the year

I got all the toa today, and Pohatu was the one I had the lowest expectations of, mainly due to the concerns listed above already. Now that I’ve built all of them, I conclude that Pohatu’s build was the least satisfying out of the bunch. He’s not awful, but he doesn’t add anything noteworthy to the basic build. Gali and the larger sets have shoulder armor, and Lewa has his backpack spike thingies, meanwhile Pohatu has… asymmetry? It’s hardly something to scream and shout about. He definitely has some gaps as well, and the positioning of his shoulders seems too far back or not high enough. That or his chest armor is too high. The boomerangs are a cool concept, but Pohatu looks a bit out of place with them since all the other Toa have fearsome looking melee weapons, which the boomerangs definitely aren’t.

On the plus side, I actually like his color scheme, and don’t mind the asymmetry too much, and exactly because he is so simple, Pohatu is very posable. While the other toa have limit\ed movement in their elbows, knees, ankles, of neck (Lewa) due to their armour getting in the way, Pohatu doesn’t have any trouble except possibly in his elbows, which don’t bend much beyond 90 degrees. I also like his mask design the best, since it retains many recognizable features of the old Kakama and still manages to look fresh.

I think people are just disappointed with how basic/generic his build is, particularly since all previous incarnations of Pohatu, barring the Rockoth V3 one, did some really interesting and unique things that set them apart from other sets, like upside-down torsos and helicopter blades that actually spun as a function. Now, surrounded by a newer generation of Toa, Pohatu just seems somewhat bland. Also, his “adrenaline mode” is probably the most disappointing of the bunch… what is the point of attaching boomerangs to his feet again?

Well, it seems that once again I have typed up a wall of text in response to a simple question… maybe I should start writing reviews.

Y’know, I actually like Pohatu, the only dislike being his new personality. In our previous universe, Pohatu was unity-driven, and a friendly toa, especially towards Kopaka. Now, he has this gruff voice as friendly as Liam Neeson in Taken 3, a stubborn Icarax-like leader craving, and a dislike towards Tahu and Kopaka.
