At first I thought it was to store the buckler, but you might be right. In that case, I don’t think it should be there at all.

Yeah, Black colored version goes better than light bluish grey. You would be surprised how nice it covers Umaraks upper back legs when you put that and the pin and axel connector. Makes the upper legs look like they are actually filled in. Not to mention you can store your masks and weapons on it.

Storm and Lava beast look great, being much more intricate and fleshed out, though Quake looks even more awkward with the gappy shoulders, two overly buff arms which are asymetrical, and scrawny legs

Really like this. Are you using the SW/Beast small torso bone?

Eh, I always thought it was related to lore: the Uniters, the Creatures, Umarak and the Beasts were somehow linked together and they carried the crystal theme. Whereas Ekimu wasn’t related so crystal armour wouldn’t have fit him. Then again JTO Makuta reused those pieces, but I can forgive him since that was a combo model.

You’re welcome! It really is. I’ve been thinking about building my own Toa torso frame out of it. Not as huge as the Uniter torso, but a lot more flexible than the (now pretty much obsolete) HF torsos.

I could have sworn Ekimu created the toa’s uniter armor,
And then there’s the crystal room he entered to gain his energized form, which included the crystal hammer,
If anything it would have made more sense.

Ekimu is implied to magically transform, I think. He doesn’t really build himself new armour so he didn’t exactly decide on his new appearence. The Lego Shop description for Ekimu the Mask Maker says Ekimu that is recovering his ancient strength, which is a plot point that is never really discussed in JtO.

So, really, all these details about G2 were so unclear that you’re not contradicting canon if you give him crystal add-ons. I’d even say he looks good with them.
