2015 style Toa Team

As my own send off to G2 I made a Toa Team in the style of 2015. I spent nearly a week trying to make these guys as perfect as possible. So I present the ToSoleku ha

Tilika - Toa of Stone

The youngest member of the group, she was fair and compassionate, but unmoving in her views and opinions. Like Soleku she was trained by Ison. However, unlike Soleku, she maintained a strong friendship Ison. She was also close with Oroshi, whom she was often partnered with.

Ison - Toa of Barium

Ison was the founder and most senior member of the team. He was very passive and adopted a quick, agile style in combat, focusing on his defence and only attacking when his opponent made a mistake. Whilst he maintained a high degree of respect with Soleku, he was closer to Tilika. He originally wore a Great Rode but he was attacked by a Skull Spider once. Through sheer willpower he overcame the Skull Spider’s control and adopted it as his main mask, favouring the extra boost of speed it gave him, he kept his Great Rode though, and wore it at ceremonial occasions. He knew Soleku did everything he did to make him proud, which is why he often challenged Soleku’s right of leadership, to see how far he would push himself to prove he was worthy.

Soleku - Toa of Fire

Soleku was the unofficial leader of the Toa Krada. He would often clash with his passive mentor, Ison, and Tilika, due to him calling upon his anger in combat. But he always managed to keep himself in control. He was best friends with Mutungu and was very close with Oroshi too as she held great faith in him and his decisions. Everything he did however, he did to make Ison proud. He failed to see Ison knew this, and this led him to attempt plans that were overly complex and they would ultimately fail, just to gain his old teachers appreciation

Oroshi - Toa of Storms

Oroshi was a Toa of Storms. She held great faith in Soleku, believing he could become a great leader due to him being mentored by Ison. She held high respect for Ison, though they did often clash as he, at times, did not believe Soleku could become a great leader. She was friends with Tilika and they both worked closely on missions

Mutungu - Toa of Gravity

Mutungu was best friends with Soleku, but was not as bold and confident as his friend. Whilst he displayed courage and leadership in battle, he wasn’t confident in leading the team and deciding their next move. For this reason he rarely contributed to group decisions and voiced his opinions to other members individually. One of the few exceptions was when Ison would challenge Soleku’s ability as a leader, where he would vehemently establish his opinion that Soleku had a very large amount of potential.

Here they are as a team

(NOTE: I am aware some aspects of the character biographies might not fit with established Canon, and I did not go out of my way to ensure they did)

Tell me what you think

I like Tilika.
Ison has some open balljoints on his chest I’m not too fond of, but other than that he looks ok.
I think Soleku could use more yellow, if you’re trying to pull off that mask.
In my opinion, Oroshi’s shoulders are a bit broad. But maybe that’s just the pictures.
Mutungu… pretty cool looking, though a bit basic.

Other than that, pretty cool. Though I’m wondering what happened to the sixth.

Simple, ran out of gear boxes.

Would have cut Ison’s exposed ball joints but only got 1 of those silver torso pieces

Must be the pictures, Oroshi’s shoulders are just as wide as the other Toa’s

Few of them really looks like Toa to me, Oroshi and Tilika being the only one with clear visible traces of an elemental ability.

Pretty simple. Kind of generic. Tilika looks more like a Pohatu reskin than anything else. Idk. Not really a fan, tbh.

Soleku is the only one I really like, but I must ask, where did you get that name?

How out of interest?

@Hutere I just thought of it?

Ok…
Because it’s the name of a character in @Gringat’s story.
(And it sounds like Solek, with a “u”)

First of all, what story?

Secondly, thanks I regret that name now

S’kay.
Just wanted to inform you.

Same color scheme; basically same arm and leg designs.

(Sees mismatched colour schemes and questionable build choices)

Do not like.
(some elements of course, but as a whole work…not really no)

Could you expand? How are the design choices questionable?

U sure bout that name?

How’d you get that IRL photo of me

@TeslaEffect Is that a picture of Scoobydoo… -_- this is my face to you. Just that face on that sprite explains my expression.

Neutral mute pixel face. Meh, try harder.

Also gotta be good and say the truth. Not nice to lie to people when something aint good. Also you have to accept that some people just wont like it, which is completely logical and understandable.

That does not answer my question of why you don’t like the colour schemes and think some designs are questionable. Which is how you improve. I’m not asking you to like it, I’m asking you explain why you don’t necessarily like it

Hmm alright.

Brown one, whats with his back, why does he have yellow lightning pieces judding from his shoulders? Also what is her weapon suppose to be and how does it have to do with the element of stone? Her shoulders look too skinny due to the upper shell chosen placemen.

Silver one, Barium, should have bright green in his colour as well besides the neon yellow/almost green as well (since the fireworks that use barium have both colours, but a more the darker green version in its hue like you see on Umarak) Exposed bailljoints and exposed upper legs (there is no help for the smaller neon yellow pieces due to them not having any pin holes, but the upper part looks incomplete, unless it has some intentions with that. And because its the brighter gray piece, it sticks out on this darker character.

Fire guy, the gold clashes with the yellow (if there was a transitional thing then it would make more sense, but how it is you have yellow at the top, the red, the some yellow the lower legs, then red again at the feet?), the upper shoulder armour doesnt connect visually all that well The overuse of the 2015 add on on the legs in that amount makes parts the legs incoherent with each other. Same problem of empty pack of the legs, all of which could have been filled in with at least a slope piece and a connector used on Umarak to place his sword on his thy. Specially cause the pieces are in black.

Storm one; probably the most visually appealing of the group, still has the shoulder armour problem as the fire guy had (do they have beefy large shoulders with no neck or is that just just armour floating outwards) but for him at least an excuse can be made that it represents clouds and the lighting motif. the back leg coverage is also an issue. Best weapon out of the bunch at least.

Gravity one, the armour meshes together nicely , second best figure, but that weapon is just confusing, what is it suppose to be and how does that say “Gravity Weapon”. Also empthy back of the legs is still an issue.

Has potential to be something better, still needs work. Right now, not that visually appealing when you look at the whole group together. Storm and Gravity are the best and need the least amount of work. Definitely seems like there were not a lot of pieces to work with, at least I can commend the MOCs for the limitations of that (if there were such limitations).

Basically what @TeslaEffect said.

You want to think of why these toa have traits, why does Tilika have energy spewing out of her back? Also I think she could use some silver plates to balance the colorsheme more, whats her weapon supposed to be, a double axe?

And from what I understand Barium is just a kind of metal, so why not just have the element called Iron like in G1 where it was pretty much all kinds of metal not just one kind. And his build is rather plain, looking like a standard CCBS figure.

Soleku needs to balance his colorshceme, I don’t think that having the yellow with the gold can work but I can be wrong, that said it needs to be matched better, here you have gold and yellow seemingly placed in random places.

Oroshi is the best, most of her design choices are okay and don’t really clash at all.

Mutungu is probably the worst, simply because he just looks plain he just looks kinda beefy but has the same build as the rest, and his weapon seems to just not make sense.

And something that should be changed a bit is that they all have the same torso build, if you want to make a toa team inspired by the style of 2015 I think you should vary their torso builds some more.

Hope this helps.

Also something I noticed while reading the descriptions was that you use the word “was” a lot, and that would imply that they are either not a team anymore or dead, so you should change that word with “is”
