A question about shadows/darkness in the story.

I may be misremembering but was there ever a point in the story that the element of shadows or darkness have been described as or compared to a liquid?

Closest thing that comes to my mind was during Dark Mirror when Tuyet and Takanuva were battling. Part of the fight was described as a race between whether Takanuva drowned in water or Tuyet suffocated by shadow. Though, that makes Shadow seem more like miasma or something.

I checked and it said drowning in darkness, so it seems it could be in a liquid form as well.
