Adaptation - a story of Rukah's

Chapter 4
After the elevator had gone, one of the fallen creatures picked itself up off the ground. It surveyed the area, noting the corpses of its fellow Vacans. It also noted where the hidden elevator had come from, and where it went. The Vacan smiled, then pulled out a communicator and switched it on. There was static for a few seconds, then a voice said,
“Report.” The Vacan considered, then spoke.
“After we approached, three of their little group came out of a hidden elevator and attacked. As usual they made short work of us, all but me are dead.”
“Couldn’t you have at least captured or killed one of them?” The mysterious voice on the other end said, clearly irritated.
“It’s not very easy with soldiers like these.” the creature replied, narrowing its purple eyes in annoyance. “You need more like me. Ones that are intelligent and not mindless.”
“We’re getting to that, you fool. What else did you learn?”
“Oh, yes. I now know the location of their elevator. With that, I could eventually find their base. I also know how to access the elevator.” The Vacan told him.
“Good work. You are at least successful, unlike your other brethren.” The voice replied. “Now, what is your designation again?”
“You should know that.” the Vacan replied, “It’s Dieron.”
“Ah yes. Now you must return to base.” the voice said, and then the communicator went static again, indicating that whoever was on the other end had signed off.
“That will be welcome.” Dieron said as he put the communicator back in his armor. Then he turned, and started the long trek back to where he had come from.

Nardus, Wardi and Kekris exited the elevator as the doors opened, returning to their hidden base. Suged welcomed them, then said,
“Did you see anything unusual out there?” Nardus looked to his companions. Kekris shook her head. Wardi said,
“No. All we saw was a bunch of Vacans.”
“Now that I think of it, one of them had purple eyes.” Nardus said. “I’ve never seen one like that before.” Suged considered this, then said.
“Did it act any differently from regular Vacans?”
“No.” Nardus replied. “It pretty much just did the same thing the rest were doing. Though it’s no matter, I dispatched it with my sword quickly enough.” Suged nodded.
“Good. Me and Trinos held this place together while you were gone. I’m sure you’re tired after all that fighting?” Suged said.
“Yeah, I’m famished too!” said Kekris, and they all laughed. Trinos, who had just entered the room, replied,
“Don’t worry guys. I just finished procuring another batch of donions. Here’s one for you, Nardus.” He threw a glowing donion at the leader of the group, who caught it and brought it to his mouth. Nardus sunk his metallic teeth into the succulent fruit, the juice flowing into his mouth.
“Mmmmm.” he said in pleasure, unable to say any more as his mouth was full of donion.
“Don’t we get some too?” Kekris said playfully.
“Sure.” was Trinos’ reply. He tossed two more of the fruits at her and Wardi. The two bit into them, feeling the energy-restoring power of the donions take effect.
“That’s a lot better.” Wardi said. “Thanks Trinos.”
“No problem.” the large donion farmer called. “Just doing my job.”
