Age Discrepancies In Knights' Kingdom II

Okay, I know I’m nitpicking the story behind a toyline that’s aimed at kids and not supposed to make sense…but I’m gonna do it anyway.

So Knights’ Kingdom II lasted from 2004 to 2006. The first two years told the story of four knights that had to save Morcia from the evil Lord Vladek. The third year was a time-skip ahead to when the former rookie Jayko had become king and had to stop Vladek once again. But the presence of certain characters in the 2006 story raises some questions about the characters’ ages.

First off, the core four knights. Jayko is said to be the rookie, and therefore the youngest. I don’t know anything about age requirements for medieval European knights, but I imagine Jayko is in his late teens or early twenties. Danju is said to be the wisest of the lot, and his minifigure face has some aging and graying to it.

Danju is probably in his late forties at the youngest. Rascus and Santis …eh…it’s hard to say. They’re definitely somewhere in between, but I can’t pinpoint any specific ages. Mathias, however, is surely older than any of them. This is his face:

In 2006, when Jayko became king, he uses the same head/face piece, implying that he’s now the same age Mathias was when he was reigning. Anyone remember in the last online comic, when Mathias gave up his crown to Jayko and said “Rise, King Jayko! And long may you reign!” Long he reigned indeed, Mathias. Long he reigned indeed.

So where do the problems arise? Well, with the tie-in book Quest For The Tower. Early in the book, there was an illustration of Sir Kentis and Sir Adric training to be knights and doing a darn good job at it. Along with Kentis and Adric smashing the training dummies silly, there was Danju in his 2005 garb, slapping his forehead in a “Dang, these guys are good” fashion. The implication is that he’s still training new knights under Jayko’s reign.

But wait a minute. How is Danju still alive? When we last saw him in 2005, there was an age difference of at least 20 years between him and Jayko. But now Jayko is old enough to have grandkids, and Danju…apparently hasn’t aged! I suppose we could be generous and assume Jayko is only in his mid-to-late sixties, but that would still put Danju in his eighties. Even in the modern day, that’s an awfully old age to be dressing up in heavy metal armor and leading a knight-training class.

Oh, but it doesn’t end there. There’s also Lord Vladek, who used this face in all his appearances:

You can kinda see the family resemblance with his descendant Ogel…

Anyway, the markings on Vladek’s face may or may not be wrinkles, they could just be scars-but it doesn’t matter. He’s likely a lot older than Jayko was in 2004-2005. And that presents the exact same problem in 2006-how has Jayko aged at least 40 years while Vladek hasn’t? Vladek should be, like, 90 at this point. No way he’d be able to lift a big metal sword, let alone swing it around.

Something really fishy is going here. I suspect magic. I mean, wizards are a thing in the Knights’ Kingdom II world…aren’t they?

Although the King Jayko minifigure has the same face print as King Matthias, the King Jayko constraction figure has a different, younger looking face.

Since the book you’re referring to uses the constraction figure designs (or at least I presume so based on the cover), I think we should only look at the constraction figure designs to address the question. The characters in the book, then, could be as little as 20 years older after the time skip.

Vladek could’ve used dark magic to gain unnatural life, perhaps?

You could essentially become a knight around 16, but first served as a squire. It would be a lifelong commitment. So it’s correct to assume teens.

You’d be surprised, some knights did serve well into old age, especially if they were generals or the king himself.

Still good points tho.

Yes, it does use the constraction figure designs. But King Jayko’s constraction facial features still look like he’s…well, again, it’s not possible to know the exact age, but it’s definitely over 40. Which would put Danju in his sixties, at the very least.

Then hopefully the Shield Of Ages will allow King Jayko to defeat Vladek for good in 2006.

As any follower of Ninjago knows, Ninjas never quit… or age either. Maybe the same thing applies to knights.

Fun fact: When Knights’ Kingdom II was in development, they based King Jayko’s likeness off of Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
