Recently, i got a new lego set.
Upon opening the box, i dumped out the bags and set out to build it. Whereupon i noticed a problem: no instructions. I checked the box again, checked under the bags, nothing. I wondered if maybe lego just forgot.
Then i took a closer look at the first bag
Wait a second. Why is there an old eye block here? Why is there stuff partially assembled? And now that i look at it, this doesn’t look like the pieces for this set.
Upon further inspention, all 7 bags were like this.
Then i noticed the final clue:
The bags were resealed.
Someone took the set, took out all the pieces and the instructions, filled the bags with random legos, resealed the bags, and then returned it. That is impressive.
It’s not like it’s just old lego, either:
This is a piece/sticker from Sora’s mech bike racer, another recent set i just built. (I don’t know why my camera turns it orange, but it is actually pink, it’s not a miscoloured bootleg)
Of course, there are still the hallmarks of old lego collections, like damaged pieces and random bits of trash, but a surprising amount of recent pieces, like the SCCBS stuff.
I am upset with this person, but also kinda impressed. They either really wanted to get this set without paying for it, and they went to a lot of extra effort to achieve that goal; or it was an elaborate prank they were willing to sacrifice some random legos for.
